Except for that time Geb dropped out of London. Remember?
of course he still wins....that's the nature of time trials. He loses competitive marathons.
and the other time he ran 2:09 something and walked across the finish line.
Geb is pretty much racing pacers, he just gets out front and then he can ease off if he's having a bad day.

He got an asthma attack, Idiot. I want so see you run with an asthma attack.
Atleast Wanjiru who showed what he is made of by not dropping off even in a bad day! I am sure if Geb didnt drop in his London marathon or his NY one he could have finished in 3 hours time!
Geb knew too well that he is out of the league when he chose to drop!
Actually when he wins in 206 it doesnt mean he is in a bad day, but had to say so to save face given that he always try to promise a record whenever he runs!

And the other races Haile DNFed? Is Wanjiru not allowed to have off days too?

Exactly how many races is that?
When Geb has had a bad day in the marathon, it has usually been at London, where local pollen triggers his asthma. There his record is 3rd (2:06 debut), 9th (2:09), and DNF. Each time he has rebounded to re-set the WR, or close to it. If Wanjiru rebounds to set the WR, or gain another gold medal, he might challenge bragging rights in the marathon (ignoring Geb's dominance at shorter distances in early career, which currently marks him the greatest distance runner overall).
Both Haile and Wanjiru have now not finished London. While not popular on Letsrun forums, dropping out when injured is a smart thing to do in a MARATHON. Gebs first was London where he crashed and still ran a 2:06 behind, Tergat and the then world record Holder(can’t remember name)
Btw… Geb won his Madrid 10K today in 28:56.
And lets not forget the 300 letsrun trolls that ran a sub 4 hour today.

Geb ran New York?
They are talking about that 10k weeks ago...I am amused that the last year you Geb haters have said Sam is better and Geb is a wimp. Now that reports are coming out that Sam is drinking and might have gotten soft due to millions in the bank. Regardless, can't we all respect the fact that Geb has been on top or near the top since 1993?! Watching others come and go, that really puts it in perspective. Geb could have retired in 2010. Time trials? Funny that he has won several marathons with second place in the 2:05 and 2:06 range. Geb might be done but that shouldn't diminish his 17 years at the top. I can't think of anyone who has had more resilience.
so having 6 pace makers in London today is what????? having them go out conservative also, it's not like they dropped a 61 half, try 64. 6 pace makers pacing, while giving you drinks is a freaking time TRIAL~!!!!!!
I'm tired of hearing Geb blame his asthma every time he can't hack it. He uses an approved inhaler that is on the banned substance list for anybody who can't get the necessary certification. It's like permitting someone who gets a doctors note for a low red blood cell count to use EPO.
Let's face it, Geb is one of the best of all time, but he's past his prime and relies on a performance enhancer to continue his time trialing career. He needs to stop making excuses and win a race that the organizers don't stack in his favor

Very well said. I'm kind of sick in general of everyone making excuses for why they didn't run well. Just admit that you weren't the best that day, is that so hard? Also, as it has been pointed out before, Geb also did drop out of NY, and there was no asthma/pollen to blame that time. Hats off to Tadesse on finishing today, even though people are going to give him a hard time. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride, and that's what he did, and I respect that.

WORD! Probably most of the haters have not followed t&f in the 90ies. Watching him at the Golden League was outa this world.
Someone needs to educate these morons into the difference between reasons and excuses.
Geb is amazing but I like Wanjiru's racing style more, he's exciting to watch because he just goes out and kills people when he's on. Hopefully this bad performance will motivate Sammy to train for a world record...ideally he probably shouldnt be in great shape right now if he wants to crush it in Berlin. I would like to see him and Geb duel it out in Berlin, though I doubt that happens.
The big let down today was Tadesse. I guess a 2:12 shortly after running a world record half proves that half marathon fitness and marathon fitness are two very different things.
Hey hey wanjiru Haters! Wanjiru pulled out coz of a knee injury after 25k, Geb pulled out coz of asthma before!
They all had good resasons to pull out, but still Geb couldnt achieve what wanjiru has achieved in Marathon at his 20s!
So that makes Wanjiru a phenomena when it comes to Marathons!
so zip it up!
