NOT. Add 3.2 seconds to get to 2 miles that means only 5 would have broken 9:00.
But it wasn't a two mile, it was a 3200. So his assesment on that is correct. You could argue that there have been better two miles, I agree with that. But this wasn't a two mile and the OP didn't say it was.

You don't have a clue about what a constitutes a great race. I hope you are not a coach.
Thanks for having my back on that. It was one amazing race!

What with all of the hand raising at the finishline?
Can't deny that race is amazing as well, more top end talent for sure, but this race was very deep. Look at "B" (seeded) section...

Ummm...ever heard of dot dot dot?
But there is this hidden ignorance amongst the greater LR.Com community that 3200m is equal to two miles.
The 3200 will never be a "great" event because it is a stupid event for stupid Americans. The rest of the world runs the 3,000. Most coaches couldn't find the 2 mile or 3k start line to save their lives - and this is why American losers run the 3200m.

You're right we should probably run the 3k and not the 3200, but that doesn't mean it's a worthless race. Most of us understand what it pretty much means. It's not 10-15 seconds slower than a two mile it's about 4. I don't see the terrible problem equating the two since they are really very close, as long as you know the 3200 is shorter. But I think the 1600 is stupid and we should just run the mile, that would be much better.
I do like the announcer telling the winner to finish before celebrating.

Must have been a lot of PRs under 9 for the first time. That's a great accomplishment!
Also, 3 more went under nine for 2 miles in the slower heat. Depending on whether Emil converts to under nine for 3200 (close enough in my book), that makes 20 under nine, with the fastest at 8:38. So, the Arcadia race last night was no where near the best HS 3200 ever, sorry.

Anyone who has run track knows 3200m isn't 2 miles. 3200m might be a stupid event, but it makes alot more sense than running 2 miles on a 400m track.
The 3200m makes sense because it follows the pattern. 100m is a made up distance, right? What about 200m? 400m? 800m? 1600m and 3200m follow the pattern of running a particular number of laps around a track.
Holy crap!!
Ever hear of the 5,000 meters? An odd lap count duck. Half laps are pure silliness.
Even more silly is the dumb reason the marathon is 26.2 miles / 42.2 km. The King wanted to make sure the Queen had the best view of the finish. Utter nonsense.
