Thoughts?
I think this would be awesome to watch...and will definitely be exciting the last 200m if there are any competitive women in the field. Definitely throws out the chance of a tactical race!

Possibly the dumbest idea I've seen in a LONG time. The Puma Mile is a cool idea, but throwing women in there with a half minute head start is dumb, and cheap on Puma's part. Battle of the Sexes is bad enough in marathons, now we have to put up with it on the track? Lame.

The difference in the the American records is 29.8 seconds. What do you suggest they do?

It's not that bad, a little hokey but I'll probably still watch.
I like that format in races. If the fastest male has a large lead over the other guys he still has someone to chase down.
We have a local 5k that does this (or used to), I always enjoyed it.
Why not a cougar mile?
It's stupid because the top guy will have to weave his way through 12 women to get the victory, with all of that weaving happening in most likely the last 200m...
Using the WR's or even AR's for the miles isn't really fair.
You're making the assumption that they are equal, but men's miles are run much more frequently than women's miles.
The 1500m is run equally for both groups and the WR is only 24sec apart.
What if the men false start?

I probably wouldn't have paid attention to this event otherwise but I would be interested to see it now.
Not a dumb idea to me.
no way a fledgling woman breaks 4:30 in the mile, so the point is moot. Any woman running that fast has a contract or is in college. Will make an interesting last lap with all the passing. May want to use some of the women as moving picks.

The Puma mile is officially 9 and half feet longer than a full mile. I thought everyone knew this.

In a normal race, if a bunch of guys fell in the first 100 meters, they would call everyone back to the start. If that happens here, the women will be half way around the track. Do they just hope for a clean start?
it will be an interesting start, because there won't be any reaction time... they know exactly when it's coming, they'll just count down and go. if someone faults i guess they just get DQ'd and the race continues
