To be more specific, if your school doesn't sponsor a track program and you hit a qualifying mark in an event, can you earn the trip to nationals (or regionals, not sure of the exact setup)? In my case, it's DIII, but I wouldn't mind knowing if the same rules apply to DI and DII. The way the rules are currently, you only get three meets where athletes at this type of school (non-sponsored track program) can run representing the school with your coach there, but no more than that; it's unattached with no coach present for all other meets.
Do schools in the NCAA pay fees for being members of the NCAA? I know this is the case for some conferences, but I'm not sure about the NCAA. If this is the case, I can see this situation not being feasible at all due to money issues.
So.. if you can go to nationals, does that count as one of those 3 meets or is it an exception (obviously can't run unattached at nationals and would probably have to have a coach present)?
Hopefully that wasn't too confusing to follow, it's a weird situation, I'm not sure how much it comes up. Thanks for any replies, I would have no idea where to look in the NCAA manual.
