a teammate of mine in college was DQ'd during a relay when a girl running in front of her stepped on the rail, fell, and then blamed my teammate for "shoving her." officials had no evidence; they just DQ'd the relay and that was that.

Actually, Using an iPod was the first real answer although now it apparently been amended to make that prohibition at the discretion of the race director in non-championship events -
A long time ago I did a 330 yd hurdle race (with curve) in high school and lined up in the inside lane. The gun went off, rounded the curve and there were no hurdles in my lane. I pulled up and said "what the hell?" - I got DQed for inappropriate language.
