How do kenyans get away with lying about their age in order to get into the junior race?

ritz may or not be able to win world junior xc even if he was allowed to run, it is not a given he would win though.

i know what you mean though, i wonder why people who are that good would lie just to win a race against younger not as developed runners, especially as there is no money for the world juniors races. 2 of the kenyans who originally made the junior team this year were caught lieing about their age and were not allowed to run.

the truth is kenya/ethiopia do not need to cheat as they would win anyway.

the same accusations were made with Haile back in the day when everyone thought he was 25-30...that would make him 45-50 now and still setting world records?? no way. he was legit 19-20 back then and so are 90-100% of the kids running.

If the Kenyans themselves can't prove or disapprove how old they are, how can the IAAF or anyone who challenges their age?

Of course they see it as cheating. That is why not everyone does it. HOWEVER, would you (the pillar of morality that you are) contemplate cheating if it meant being able to feed your family? If it meant being able to afford a surgery that your mother needs?

Of course, SOME Kenyans would be tempted to use PEDs. So are some Americans. Most, however, do not have access to them, can't afford them, and are hesitant to risk their health. Your analogy is like saying "if they will lie about their age for money then they will necessarily perform a daring heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of New York." The former comes is a lot less blatant and risky of a sin/crime than the latter. I think you also missed the fact that most Kenyans aren't lying about their ages. Or if they do it is to trick the managers who only want younger athletes NOT to get into World XC.

Risky? In a country that doesn't do any testing? Yeah right.

I could have sworn I said "risk to their health." Maybe that doesn't show up with hate-tinted glass on?

On another note - if a lack of testing makes a runner guilty then Americans are as guilty as anyone. Most of the major road races in the USA don't test and invite the most suspect of athletes i.e. Mo Trafeh, Teyba Naser, Alene Reta, etc.
