That might be a fair predictor. You could do a 1200m time trial as well and get a fairly good idea of what kind of shape you're in for a 1500.
It's going to vary based on the individual. Are they good at workouts, are they fresh, how much speedwork have they done, have they raced yet? For a real workout warrior, it could end up being 10-15 seconds faster than what they could do in a race. An 800/1500 guy could probably do it faster than a longer distance guy as well. And I bet a low-mileage high schooler could blow that thing out of the water, but then when he doesn't get the breaks between repeats...
If you really like that workout, do it and then race a 1500. Then the next time you do it, you'll have an idea of what it indicates. But the idea that there are these "predictor workouts" that can objectively and accurately determine your current ability is just flat out wrong.
The traditional predictor goes 400-800-300, making it a lot tougher. Google "1500m predictor"
