I only have one question based on an old thread I had come across a few days ago. I searched for an answer on my own and was unable to find a satisfactory answer. I may be asking the wrong question however, so please anyone with real knowledge on the topic reply and all other take a moment to learn something instead of grasping at straws.
The thread was about how many people could actually run a sub 5 minute mile; one of the responses stated something about only a small percentage of people are born with the correct muscle make-up to run a sub 5 minute mile.
As I understand muscle fibers or muscle make-up you have x-number of fast twitch and x-number of slow twitch (and there is Fast twitch A & B). Anyway, if you have more fast twitch you are; I guess for lack of knowing how else to say it “pre-despot” to the sprints (in the case of track) and a more even make-up of fibers would put you in the middle distances, and finally more slow twitch would then put you on the distance end of the spectrum.
I am aware that you can train one of the fast twitch muscles to be called on in LD events. So my question: Was the statement about people not being born with the correct make up of muscle fibers completely incorrect; if so then does that mean most people are born with a more fast twitch muscle fibers? If the statement was correct how is that possible; wouldn’t everyone need to fall into one of the three muscle spectrums’ I listed or is there another group for them to fall into??
Sorry Long!!
