I know its a fun race. But I watched D1 nationals, and the first 3 legs all work their butts off, only for the last legs (milers) to bring it to a jog and kick race. Whats the point? I would rather they go back to the 4x800.

And yes, I know the point is to win. But I can watch all these guys run the mile in another race.
No way, best event in indoor. The leaders were total wussies, they should have took off hard, no way they should have let Wheating into that race.
Maybe they should change the order? Imagine if they put the 1600 first? That would probably be more exciting.
Nothing compared to the 4x400 or what the 4x800 would be like. I think its great event when teams are racing, but not when they are at the national meet running for points/place. The first 3 legs were exciting.
Agreed, the 4x800 is the best race ever.
No shit they should change the order! Put the 1600 first. At least me and my other real man team mates would have tried to go for the win after that puss Coe handed off to us.
what they need to do is do away with the outdoor steeple in both NCAA and IAAF
I'm totally with you on this. The 4x800 is a much better race - four equal legs.

Yes i was shocked Coe let everyone back in the race...he had a decent lead and just gave it up...he more known for his 3k, and his mile than his sprint speed. Def not the wisest decision he's made.
Everyone gets all upset when someone does something like Coe did. So what Coe slowed it down and it became a kickers race. Are we all going to throw a fit when the mile becomes a sit and kick race? Watch the mile every year and you see everyone sit and kick, they go through the half at a pedestrian pace and then, wham! off they go. You will see it happen today in the men's mile finish. The DMR miles were all honest, 4:01-4:04, everyone was in it. That made it exciting and fun. Besides Minnesota finishing 3rd was great for the Big Ten and the Gophers. They were not one of the top 3 teams in the DMR and yet they pulled it off.
The sit and kick is part of the sport, let the milers and the coaches do what they want to. Most years, the milers are off and it's great and instead of sitting here yelling about what Coe did and how we should get rid of the DMR, just enjoy the beauty of what happened yesterday. We had 11 teams in it, with 6 laps to go.
Did you watch the women's DMR? That was fun, it was exciting, Sheffey vs Hassay vs Infeld running 4:32-4:35 to close was fun to watch. The kick was great, that is the love of a DMR. Would you be upset with Hassay if she had taken the lead slowd it down and taken off? Or would someone be saying oh it was smart running so she could save her legs for the mile final and 3k final? Or would you be ripping apart Lanana for running her in all 3? I could almost guarantee that there would be three or four threads ripping apart the decisions.
I for one, love the DMR, it's exciting, and brings everyone into it. 4x8 is great, but lets not go back to high school. If we bring back the 4x8 then the sprint coache's wil want the 4x200. If that is the case, the meet is way to big, goes way to long. The DMR was run like a race, that's exactly what we got. I got back to my previos statement. 11 teams in it with 6 laps to go. Beautiful.
One reason I prefer a 4x800 to a dmr is that 1/4 of the dmr are 400 meter runners - and there already is a 4x400 in the meet.
Another reason is that, come outdoors, there is an 800 individual event, but there remains a 4x4 and a 400 race.
The net effect is that 800 meter guys start to get squeezed out by the 400 types and the distance types. I think that is very unfortunate because the US 800 guys have been better in the past and can be better in the future, but they are getting a little short changed at the university level.
It wouldn't be the worse thing in the world for our 1500 meter guys to drop down to a 4x800 from time to time, either, rather than just coming back to run another 1600 on the dmr for points.
The upside for the dmr is that it allows distance programs to score more points in the team hunt, so that kind of counter balances the sprint doubles that the speed schools can put together.
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
