Why did Ulrey, Coe and the EMU guy slow down to let Wheating back into the race? Did they really think they could out kick him?

Might have been the dumbest choice of strategy by the leaders in that DMR letting Wheating get back in it

agreed, the Cal guy really shot himself and his team in the foot by letting the ENTIRE field back into the race after being given the lead. if I were his teammates i'd be pretty upset

I think Wheating deserves all four blaques for that performance since he did it all, but Acosta will still celebrate like he did something.
I like Ulrey but he sure ran a dumb race. He's got to be kicking himself now -- ran a 4:03 to Wheating's 4:01. It was Ulrey's race to lose and he lost it. Guess he was trying to save something for tomorrow but had he run 4:00 (not a tall order) Arkansas would have won the DMR and he'd be fired up for the 3K.

Ulrey ran a dumb race. EMU ran a dumb race. And Michael Coe should probably go and hide. If that was his decision to run like that, it was just cowardly. The guy has a 3:56 mile to his name. WTF did he do that for. Wheating was in TENTH getting the baton and won it because everyone went tactical. They all might as well not have even run the first 3400m. They should have just lined up the anchors and let them run a 1600m. That was stupid. How would you feel if you were Matusak who ran like a f-ing MAN on that 1200 leg, only to watch it get bitched away by Coe. I'm pissed just sitting here writing this.
