Alan, is the arch legal for the lifting portion of the pump and run?
The post isn't BS. It's completely probable for someone to bench their body weight 20+ times. In highschool in the midst of football season I was able to bench my own body weight 20+ times, weighing 185 at the time. I wasn't even training to do this, so the fact that he was probably training for the event (most likely with high amounts of pushups which have grand effects on your endurance as far as bench press goes) makes it a very possible feat.
And as far as the "bench press calculator" goes, that's a highly unreliable test. At times when I was able to bench 285 I could only rep 185 MAYBE 15 times, but at other times when I could only put up 250 I could have repped 185 20+ times due to the high amount of pushups I was doing at the time (thus increasing my muscular endurance).
Everyone is different.
agreed. on a related note, I think Joe Falcon would have been a force in the pump and run, but I'd just like to know if he was benching to increase his max (and thus win bets with the football team) or if he had a lot of upper body muscular endurance.
also, is the back arch legal?
and can someone post the rules from the arnold website. I can't seem to find them.
For the Arnold P&R event to grow, they need to have a separate pro division with prize money. Since Arnold will be out of politics soon, he will have more time to be involved with the Arnold Classic, so expect positive changes to happen very soon.
they don't have prize money now?
I know theres like 44 events too, and the expo i hear is the best part.
also, I just got an application for the Kennet Square, PA pump and run and they offer $200, $100, and $50 for both a 10k run and 5k run. and the times are very slow compared to arnold.

the event is May 15th.
Look up the actual rules or talk to those who have done it. If it's legal in powerlifting it should be legal there. It should be: feet, butt, traps, stay on the bench.
As far as Joe Falcon goes....has ANYONE on this board EVER seen him bench 200-250lbs? I'm sure there's enough Arkansas alums on this board to answer the question. I always thought it was one of those myths out there...kind of like Paul McMullen running sub 4:00 at 200lbs...;) Just because it's in print doesn't make it so.
Alan
From what I hear, the Arnold is kind of greedy with their money. My girlfriend did the figure show, and she said she heard (I know, not a good source of info) that people who win prize money at the Arnold are expected to give a certain percentage (like 20%) back to the show. Anyone else heard of anything like this?
I wish I was closer to Kennett Square. It's like 8.5 hours away and I live in Ohio!
its good to hear both points of view. From what I hear the expo is outstanding and the event in general is the place to be for exercise enthusiasts.
Here are the rules, sorry about the caps - I just copied and pasted from the website. it appears just shoulders and butt have to remain on the bench, so back arch is legal.

right now i've been lifting 2-3 days a week (chest usually 2 days a week).
should I do a set of pushups on the between days and stretch well? or just rest and let the muscles recover?
bump
Don't go to failure on the pushups and you can do pushups almost everday.

One of my old teammates on the track team has a video up on facebook of him putting up 405lbs 3 times. He's maybe 5'7 ~160lbs. I thought that was impressive. Don't care if you believe me or not. If you are fb friends with Evander Wells you can watch it yourself.
