My top mid-distance runner had an unfortunate episode of bad luck last weekend when he had half of his shoe ripped off as he was spiked in the opening steps of the 800 at Penn State.
I really ought to take a picture of his Johnson spikes as I've never seen anything like it in track adn field - totally blood stained and his flesh was actually hanging on to the outside of the shoe.
Blood was gushing everywhere and obvioulsy he couldn't run. So the bad news was he couldn't run, he's a senior and was poised to break the school record, etc.
The good news is amazingly nothing was broken, no tendon/ligament damage etc. - just some stiches 6-8 (3 of them being double). He's getting the stiches out early next week and should be fine for conference.
My question is he wants to start running/jogging before then. I've advised him against it and he's going to defer to our medical staff but I was wondering anyone on here has ever run with stiches before. THe stiches are on the top outside portion of his foot.
Once the wound closes up, can you run?
