I think it's a real shoe, but yes, it's also a gimmick. Research has shown, even in Nike's own science labs, that the LESS you have under your feet, the faster you run with the least injury. This is because a thick sole causes you to land harder because your feet are trying to feel and judge the surface, which they can't do with a lot of cushion between them and the ground. Landing harder means more impact on the joints all the way up your body. I personally just made the switch to race shoes (minimal sole) and my feet and every other part of me are so much more happy now.

Your feet are made of the most intricate and impressive construction, and wearing supportive shoes is like wearing a cast.

Read "Born to Run" if you want to learn more, and probably change your whole outlook on running. I had learned some of this before I read that book, but it had me in awe at how much I learned from it - plus it's a great, true story!

I clicked on your link, and I don't see anything resembling a shock absorber. Moreover, a shock absorber would be a very BAD thing to put in a running shoe, as its sole purpose is to absorb energy.

Based on that website, it looks like there is a SPRING in the HEEL (not heal). This is only a real improvement if it returns more energy than the sole of a traditional running shoe. There is ZERO scientific data on their website, and they seem to rely on no more than some fancy wording and crappy "testimonials" to sell their product.

Don't waste your money.

Instead of an elevated heel and a spring in the heel, you should be using your Achilles tendon which is designed to do exactly that.
