1.43.15 in March almost 3s clear of the field is awesome running. Is the WR 1.41.11 from 1997 in danger or will Rudisha not be able to carry his form into the european summer?
That is fast! Last year, Kaki opened with a 1:43.09 in May. Rudisha will be tough to beat this season.
Gregson seems to be improving further. Very impressive.
It seems the javelin got threw a long way also in Melbourne, 83m. Is that far? does anyone on LRC care?
I'm not sure if I'm more impressed by Rudisha or by Gregson. Or this 17 year old Rowe character. All very impressive. All should give themselves a big pat on the back.

Definately agreed. But people should take note of the great run by Gregson and how much better he is than Fernandez.
Gregson and Rowe have proved themselves to have great potential. They may or may not improve on this potential. Rudisha has transformed great potential into world class performance. As track fans we should congratualte all but acknowledge what is truely world class

It is clearly in danger. Rudisha is young, he ran 1:42.01 last year, which was a big time drop, not a minimal drop culminating from years of scratching slightly lower, and has already run 45.5 and 1:43.2 in March.
Although still far from elite, Gregson's time is excellent for his age and recall that Webb didn't get faster than that 800m time until his Wunderjahre. It may indicate that he can drop to 3:32 this year, which wouldn't at all be surprising for someone who ran 3:35 this early.
The 17 year old ran faster than Greer as a junior, so he's a big prospect.

Why? Did Gregson run sub-13:25?
No Gregson didn't run 13:25, but Fernandez didn't run 1:46 either. They are different runners. The specialties are different. Gregson's got the mid distance wheels, while Fernandez has the 5k wheels. Their ranges meet at the mile/1500, and right now Gregson has a very slight edge in that event.

They are the same age, but you can't compare an athlete who competes on the pro circuit vs an NCAA athlete. Gregson trains to compete againt world class seniors, while GF trains to compete againt what is comparitively world class Jrs.
With that said, GF would have to run around 13:15 in the 5k this year to be on the same trendline as Gregson.
