2 deaths in a Ragnar race in recent months, and the director said on the Phoenix news that maybe they need to look at safer routes.
I'm not one for over reacting, but I agree that a better route is likely the most effective way to increase safety. The current route had us passing the "worst" roads at the worst time, 1-2am when runners and van driver where tired and drunk drivers coming home after last call.
A water stop on the more busy roads would also be a good idea, e.g. eliminating the need to cross a busy road to support your runner.
Bottom line is this will always be a risky race. Read the waiver, think about it, and if you participate understand and accept the risks. God bless America!
Nat Turner, two wrongs don't make a right. Please move on and stop with this nonsense. Show respect to this kid and his family.
I pray for his full recovery.
Wow. This is sad to hear. Last June, I was part of a team doing the Wasatch Back Ragnar in Utah. My teammate on the 32nd leg, was going through town, and got hit by a car, he finished out his last leg, and we did pretty well, but it kept us from breaking top 6. We finished 11th. Sad, as it was a pretty busy main road, and there were no cross guards or safety checks of any kind.
