There is a huge search for her and some other threads on this as well. It's good to make these threads though, as much awareness as possible.

Very scary and awful. So sorry for her family. I hope they find her soon.

A good reminder to all, esp women, to be careful when and where you run, to run with others when possible, to tell people when you expect to be done with your run, and to listen to your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, or if you see someone who gives you the creeps, abandon ship. Your life is more important than getting your run in.

This is something police talk to running clubs about all the time. Unfortunatley it falls on deaf ears.

Women who run alone, with headphones (ipod etc) are the #1 target for attackers. They can not hear anyone coming up behind them. (We have all been there. Running along and pass some woman or man with headphones, and they jump.)

Wearing headphones, you also can not hear if someone is calling for help.

But, like I said, many, if not over 90% say they are not giving up their music, even if it means they have a higher percentage of being attacked.

What will it take for people to wake up?

Sounds like this is a recovery now not a rescue.

I've always thought that. But here in the US, we just put them away and our tax dollars can take care of them.

Study after study after study has shown that rehabilitation, behavioral modicfication, job training, etc is a better long-term fix for the vast majority of criminals than just throwing them in jail. Our current jails make criminals worse. The exception to all this - sexual predators. These pieces of human garbage cannot be rehabbed. Call it a sickness if you want, that's probably right, but there is no treatment for this sickness. and since it looks like our prisons will stay the way they are...the only cruel and unusual punishment sexual prdators need is to be put into genpop with the other prisoners knowing why they are there. They won't get out of prison that way. As I understand it now, many of these guys get their own section of the prison away from genpop, since all the wardens and guards know that they'll be killed in the showers.

Statistically women joggers are attacked VERY RARELY; far less than the general population. Also, women wearing headphones are FAR MORE in danger from traffic and cyclists. Unfortuneately NANCY GRACE is going to create & generate MASS HYSTERIA.

Of course none of this helps or comforts the family of Chelsea King (who wasn't wearing headphones, by the way).

Very sad & tragic, but keep it in perspective....statistical perspective.

telling like it is - the first post was racist, but your post is as racist as can be. Plenty of people from poverty become straight A students - I myself am one. Are you some kind of racist who believes black people cannot achieve? How condescending - I hope you don't impute the same prejudice to people you work with and meet.

By the way, my heart goes out to both missing girls. With the information at hand, I fear for the worst with young Ms. King.

I used to work for a company that made manufacturing software, and one of the clients was a prison that housed only sexual offenders. They make office furniture for use by all state government offices. Anyway, I visited that prison and was given a tour, walking right past all the inmates who were out and about. Most of them looked as normal as they could be...completely freaked me out not only being around those inmates, but just being within the prison walls to begin with. I was very glad when the day was over and I walked out. Watching them all line up waiting for the commissary to open (like 3rd graders would line up) was oddly disturbing...grown men having to line up like an elementary school kid. They deserve what they got, but damn do I never want to be in prison for anything.

They get their own f-ing prison?! Oh damn that just makes me sick.
