I think the problem with wheating is not his size, it's that he's got a ferrari engine in a honda accord body, simply because the engine has always been a ferrari but the body hasn't had a chance to be upgraded.

he came from barely any high school running into training at oregon with rupp, centro and the gang and his motor puts a lot of stress on his body. most peoples bodies are more like an audi A6 with a hyundai accent engine due to the years of base and training but simply not enough of an engine.

lananna has said that they need to be careful with him, but it's hard to hold him back or hold him out i'm sure when you know if you can unleash the beast it could be quite fun.

Wheating set the Oregon school record for the indoor mile at the NYC armory, breaking the mark previously set by Prefontaine.The marks by Fleet, Rupp, Centrowitz and Acostas were school bests, but should not be school records as they were run on an oversized track.

This talk about Wheating and injuries is nonsense. The kid is now a Senior, and to my knowledge, he has had one injury, the one that occured to his calf as he was winning the NCAA 800 meter championship last June. Other than that,I don't believe he has been injured at all. Look at his record for the last four years and you will see that he has consistently competed and improved.

Everyone keeps saying how the shorter guys (400 in an 800, 800 guy in a mile, etc) ALWAYS have a kick. not true. the Brojos have gone into depth about this as well... to sum it up, the MOST FIT individual over the given race distance will win the even, doesn't really matter how the race plays out. I gaurantee Wanjiru could outkick Usain at the end of a marathon if he was running with Bolt at his given all out marathon pace.

So, no need for everyone in the field to panick and goes balls to the wall just to make sure wheeting isn't there with 200 to go...

believe a couple indoors seasons ago he lost a shoe at the start of an 800 and still ran 1:50 with one shoe (he was unknown still after that) but tore the skin off so the rest of indoors was quiet. he had a foot problem last indoor season (hot spot). calf problem outdoors and a hip problem or something else in the fall. not sure if it was a stress fracture or what.

are you for real? wheating went from like 90th to 70th at ncaa cross in the last half mile a couple years ago. he ran a :26 on his last 200 when he ran 3:38. if you aren't pushing the pace fast enough wheating will eat you up. did you even watch pac-10's last year? centro and rupp beat wheating because they got the jump on him and ran :52/:53 on their last laps but wheating was rolling down on them the last 100 and if you saw the photo a couple meters after the line you would have thought he won it.

so as was said above, if you want to beat wheating any where around a 4 minute mile you better not let it come down to last 200-300. additionally, wheating is not an 800 guy running the mile, he's a who knows what at this point who has been mostly running 800's presumably to develop the speed. he's easily a miler and probably capable of a very good 3K and 5K. his 70th at ncaa cross was on a short season after coming back from the olympics.
