(NHS) National Honor Society - Did you get into it in high school? If not, why? Also, Why is there a such thing as an NHS (National Honor Society)? Is it just being used as a motivator to control the students?
I mean usually the very top 10 students or so such as SAT national merit kids get in, but then after that, getting into NHS is a complete crapshoot. No offense but there are always some dumb as rocks kids who take the easy way out, good GPAs, lower level courses, etc. and get in just because the NHS 4-5person teacher committee loves them ...saying they have good moral "character," wellrounded, etc.
Every high school varies so much why have it? If you go to a crappy high school you'll get in. If you go to a competitive high school you probably won't unless you're very very good. Also, Do you put it on your resume these days since you got in? Let's not forget that today most NCAA xc/track athletic website bios still mention it next to other high school honors.
Descibe your HS class rank/grades in this fashion and whether or NOT you were admitted to NHS. I'll start.
HIGH SCHOOL
Upper-middle class public suburban high school in New England area. graduated roughly 80th out of 350 students (like just barely top quarter). 3.4 gpa, captain of XC team. had some detentions though for driving my car out in the middle of the day/leaving school whenever I felt like it senior year.NHS Committee of 4-5 teachers decided I would NOT get into NHS.
COLLEGE
Attended a business college where 90% of all students graduated in the top 10% of high school class (better than myself). the average incoming SAT at my college is a decent 1220. my college roommate graduated this college with 3.7 gpa, and i graduated this college with a 3.9 gpa. he was top 10 rank in his HS class in inner city high school. im not trying to be elitist here - he is very smart (probably smarter than me) but in high school he was admitted to National Honor Society (NHS) and i wasn't.
