My veil of suspicion will lift he can be consistent.

Remember - it was not too long ago Spain went 2-3-4 in the finals of the Seville 1500m. All those guys had long, successful careers. Spain used to be a team to be reckoned with in the mid distances. ANd why not? Same country produced the likes of the endurance machine Miguel Indurain.

make that 3-4-5. Still - a good achievement when the top two were arguably the best milers in history.

And unlike Salazar's runners, they did it clean.

If you think that Indurain was clean, then you are on better drugs than even he was on.

As for the other Spaniards- they were great, until REAL testing began circa 2000-2002....

You guys re funny... EPO won't make you 15 seconds faster over a 3000m in 4 months...

Come on! When ou're already training hard, it would only make you a couple seconds faster over that distance...

The guy trained harder obviously... changed his lifestyle and focus... that alone could explain a big improvement...

If he's on EPO, then he is a 7:34-7:35 runner without it... still a very good runner....

If you really think that Spain has dropped from prominence as a middle distance top tier country, you just flat out don't follow the sport. They may not have won a medal lately, but they consistently churn out high level elite middle distance runners.

2007 Osaka Championships AND 2005 Helsinki Championships, Spain was the only country with 3 finalists in the mens 1500m. 2004 Olympic games Reyes Estevez placed 7th in the 1500m.

And that's not including a solid stable of marathoners like Iglesias and and Rios who both run sub 2:11 last year (Rios was sub-2:10 the year before).

For a country with ~45 million people or so, that's fairly impressive, especially when compared to the U.S 300+ million.

But did he relocate there?

Kenyan Douglas Wakiihuri went to Japan to train and embrace the lifestyle with successful marathon results: gold WC 1987 and silver OG 1988. Toss in London and NYC wins as well as a few others.

Kenyan Eric Wainaina followed to the Japanese way of life posting similar marathon results: bronze OG 1996 and silver in OG 2000 (was also 7th in 2004 giving him 3 OG marathon top 10 finishes).

Interesting concept...embrace another culture in order to run fast.
