Anchors Duke to a come-from-behind win in the 4x8 at the Armory.
Has to be the most talented athlete we've seen in the NCAA in a long, long time.

really? andy wheating ran 1:50.0 with one shoe indoors as a freshman and came out of high school as a nobody.
Curtis is definitely much more of an athlete... no question at all.
Also, how about that Duke DMR win too. Sick come from behind after a fall in the first leg. One of their guys anchored 4:03.
I'm with sprinkles...
Wheating is an 800 runner, and he trains for the 800.
Beach is a decathlete, and he trains for the hurdles, sprints, long jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin.
overstatement? wrote:

You obviously don't know who Curtis Beach is. He's not a distance runner. He's a decathlete. So yes, he is most likely the most talented ATHLETE we've seen in the NCAA in a long time.
It was really 1:48.2 according to trackside obs.ervers

It's funny that you mention all the other events he is good at when the only reason you think he is an athlete is because of his 800 meter time. Face it, if he did not run a fast 800 no one here would be talking about him in terms of best athlete in the NCAA. How many times does does Ashtom Eaton or Trey Hardee get mentioned on Letsrun? But this dude runs an 800 and everybody's like "Oh my God, what a great athlete!"
the better "athlete" is clearly beach. how could you even argue that?
Seems like everyone is trying to make some distinction between the word I used, athlete, and something else, so I just want to clarify I wasn't trying to pussyfoot around anything: Curtis Beach is the most talented participant in NCAA track and field that we've seen in a long, long time.
video?

if beach makes worlds or the olympics in the next few years (decathalon I will consider him in wheatings class, though beach has been training seriously for several years more coming into college longer than wheating did. wheating didn't just squeak onto an olympic team after a couple years of serious training, he stormed onto it.
a video of this would be disgusting if someone knows where to find it
should be available here but i don't have a milesplit account so i'm not sure: http://ny.milesplit.us/articles/34731

Wrong, Wheating was a miler at that point training for the 1500/mile. And a nobody.
It's great to be a fan, and excited about a fantastic performance from your stud. It's great to see the passion.
Trying to find a more objective approach, there is indeed an athlete in the NCAA that is much more than someone who hasn't been seen in a long, long time. Ashton Eaton is an athlete who has never been seen in the NCAA. No one has ever matched his heptahalon production. Maybe Curtis will have something to say about that in years to come, but all that can be said today is that Eaton has let his athletism stake his claim to being the greatest by his actual, rather than hoped for, performances on the field.
So Beach has run a nice split on a reply. Where does that put him on the NCAA list for nationals? Where is he on the list for the indoor multi?
Maybe hold off on posting until he's actually does something of significance...or potential significance.
What is a split on a reply? 1:47 for a freshman who isn't focusing on the 800 isn't something of significance? Please do tell what you are smoking.
Are you kidding me, Beach probably runs no more than 25 miles a week.
The guy is the best prospect at Multi OR 800 that we have seen.
He had already run 47.x relay not "reply"
The guys is a phenom of phenoms.

That's funny.
Unless you're serious, then you're an idiotic remarking about a decathlete who just performed this feat.

The only thing impressive about that is he is exceptional at the 800 distance and manages to pole vault quite well I believe.
There are a number of kids who can throw down fast sprints/jumps/and throws--- but lack in the 800 and pole vault.
That's what makes Beach special, though to be honest his throws could use some improvement.
For instance, Marquise Goodwin would have been better then Beach at the 100-200-Long Jump-Triple Jump, and probably high jump. Pole vault/longer distances/throws are a big Q however, but really, sprinting and jumping tend to go hand in hand for the most part.
The only problem is that you can rarely find an athlete good at everything. Sure you could probably pull one of those muscular 45 second 400m runners who would dominate at sprints and possibly jumps, but pole vault and upper distance...?
