USA Cross Country Championships in Spokane

Why don't you compete in it?

field seems a bit weak, what happened to the top us xc runners, the guys listed so far or at least the ones I think will make the team will have a very poor showing at worlds

I'd go watch if I were local. Emily Brown entered, too.

Women's field is much stronger than last years. Mens feild could be interesting, I'm sure Ritz will take all, but I think the Zap men & Team USA MN could do well too. It will be worth watching

While I am back on the running wagon, I'm still not fast (about 22 min 5k shape). I thought about the citizen's race, but figured I could be more productive covering the event.

This is easily the weakest men's field up top in a few years. Some of the guys entered have showed success at longer distances (Team USA MN), but you need speed to compete in World XC. At least it'll give a few guys a chance to earn some international experience.

The women's field is great! The entries that have popped up over the past week and a half make this one of the better fields in the past few years.

They still have until next Friday to register, if I understand the website correctly. And they are updating the list hourly. It will be curious who else decides to race.

Dunbar is only Junior I recognize; anybody else of note racing the boys 8k?

Right now I believe that Ritz is the only guy that is capable of finishing in the top 40 at Worlds. It ususally takes a sub 28:10 guy to finish top 40. Is there more that one guy that has EVER broken 28 minutes?

Hopefully the top guys haven't entered yet. Otherwise, I say send Ritz only.

Tomorrow at 5 PM is the early entry deadline before the fees go up. Start lists are updated hourly.

Will Allison Stokke be there supporting Cal entrants ?

why don't you go out there and run under 28min? until then, don't criticize the many guys in that field who ran mid 28s last year and should take shots sub 28min this year. I'm pretty sure bobby curtis and ryan vail finished pretty well last year at world xc and they've run good 5k times which would indicate something in the low 28's, and even sub 28. IMO guys like smyth, vega, morgan, houseworth, jankowski, nelson, etc. could place well at world xc if in good form. Sure they may not place top 20 but anything in the top 40 is a great race. Didn't McNeil place 32nd a couple years ago? And he wasn't in sub 28 shape until this past year.

On another note people need to get over the name game. Look what guys like Vega and Smyth did at the half's three weeks ago. That race didn't have a lot of "big names" and it ended up being one of the best years ever as far as depth of top ten. A USA World cross team is going to be tough to make any year regardless who runs. The top guys deserve to go to worlds. This whole they should only take Ritz stuff is crap.
