Rumor around Boulder, Colorado is Jenny Barringer is signing a 7 figure deal

Highly unlikely considering she is not even world class level. Maybe running against some US college runners she does well, except for XC Nationals. She has not proven herself yet as a high caliber runner. She also needs some SEX appeal. And yes I did say SEX appeal.

In this sport the girls that make the money, not only do well in their event, but must show some skin.

Highest salary ever for an American distance runner?? Maybe Kara Goucher could compete with that though.

I'm not a big Barringer fan but wasn't she right there for the win in the Pre Classic and got 5th at Worlds in the steeplechase? She is world class.

Not world class level? Are you kidding me? I think 5th at the WCs and holding top 10 times in the world in more than one event counts as world class level.

It'll take her about four years after taxes and agent fees before she gets to seven figures on this contract. Still very good.

7 figures is not unlikely at all. Here we have a world class runner (YES, she is world class) who is fresh out of college and has so much potential and years to go! Very, very promising...

Maybe $1mil over 4-5 years but no way she's getting a mil a year...not in this economy.

If that's the case, New Balance gypped her.

In 2009 her times were top-10 in 1500, top-5 in steeple, top-15 in 3000 and top-25 in 5000. World class.

Steeplchase? Come on! Lets see her duck that event and compete in the 1500, 5k, or 10k, against a world class field. No offense, but right now she is not there. It time maybe.

Kara Goucher makes over $1 million... so not surprising that Barringer will be making that much. For all you non-believers, I don't think you realize the full picture. She is indeed making 7 figures.

See the post above yours. She is definitely world class. Perhaps you missed some of her races such as at the Pre Classic as well as another Golden League meet where she won against international competition?

You guys are still not getting my point. Around here (USA) she is great, in the world class field she could barely make top 50 in any event 1500 and up.

Oh! and K Goucher does not make 1 million per year.

Maybe , and I say maybe add all her endorsements, and appearance fees, then she could come close to 500k.

If this is true, it's probably a deal through 2016. 1 million would be big, but not unbelievable.

No she didn't.

what is your criteria for being world class???

one thing i use for considering someone world class is if they are in the top 100 on the all time outdoor list in a championship (meaning real) event.

1500- she is #86 on the all time list = WORLD CLASS in 1500

steeple- #8 on all time list, she is EXTREMELY world class.

5k-15:01-it currently takes about a 14:55 to be on the all time top 100 in the 5k, she is not yet, but it is basically a given she will be world class at 5k.

10k- it takes about a 31:15 to make the top 100 on the all the time list, WHEN NOT IF she gets the world class 5k time, she will also be able to make the 10k list.

also i think she can be world class in the half marathon and marathon if she decides to run those events.

NEWSFLASH JENNY BARRINGER IS A WORLD CLASS RUNNER.

and many would think my criteria is too tough.
