It's not just the size of the man but the size of their hearts. The discipline and hard, reverent lifestyle. They are born and raised ready to compete. Puts spoiled, fat American kids to shame.

You can't be serious. Samoa has a huge obesity problem. They just happen to have a larger persent of their population that can get big and muscular (with the downside that without training they get very fat). It is more to do with gene pool than culture. You raise a Kalinjin baby from birth in Samoa to Samoan parents and they will not be playing in the NFL.
Huge disproportion of Samoans in professional wrestling. How many Samoans do you know, but how many Samoan wrestlers can you name?

zero and zero.
What is the Samoan marathon record? They must have one.
A Samoan can run a marathon, but it is unlikely that an Ethiopian or Kenyan will ever play in the NFL.
" They must have one."
No Samoan has ever run 26 miles.
Per Wikipedia, the Samoan national marathon record is 2:41:50 set on March 22, 1969 by someone named Amani Tapusoa.
One of you 6 minute per mile guys should move there and set a national record.
Look at guy in second pic - you don't think he could clog up the middle running lane?

Anyone who has even a casual aquaintance with pro wrestling could name a Samoan wrestler (usually former football players). Jimmu Superfly Snooka and the "actor" known as The Rock Duane Johnson.
Do Samoans really have hard heads? That is the gimmick cliche about Samoan wrestlers.
looks like someone saw that excellent piece on 60 minutes last nite. He's actually right, for an island of 65k people, Samoa has actually had/has something like 80+ people make it in the NFL. They also said a samoan child has a 56x higher chance to make it in the NFL as an child living in the States
It is a huge exaggeration to say that Samoans are to the NFL what Kenyans and Ethiopians are to distance running. There are a lot of good Samoan football players, but they don't dominate the game the way that Kenyans and Ethiopians dominate running.
If the NFL were composed almost entirely of Samoans, then they'd dominate like Kenyans and Ethiopians in distance running. However, if Samoa had the, what?, 70 million or more people that live in Kenya and Ethiopia combined, then at the same population rate, instead of sixty five thousand, there would be 80,000 Samoans in the league. Um ... but there are only about 1500 people in the league, so it would be all Samoan. However, if you go position by position, there aren't too many Samoans at some positions, like quarterback, so maybe you would have Samoans dominating the lines and linebacker, but African Americans at the remaining positions except for the token white kickers and quarterbacks.
Wasn't there a samoan 800 runner at Beijing that was like 2:02?
I think not, dont you have to run the B standard? Maybe I am wrong but I thought it worked that way
The "Samoa 800m" guy at the Beijing Olympics was actually from the island of Guam and got a PR at the olympics w/ a 1:57.
He has an interesting story and ESPN did a nice piece on him:
2x US olympic marathoner Ed Eyestone was born in Samoa
Except the Samoans do not dominate the NFL, American blacks do
You are to the letsrun message board what Sarah Palin is to politics.
Very few people in kenya play football or baseball in the closest sports are rugby and cricket so it depends on interest.
Your analogy doesn't hold up. There may be a few Samoans in the NFL, but to be like the Kenyans and Ethiopians in distance running, you have to utterly dominate the sport. Your numbers at the elite level must dwarf all other nationalities or ethnic groups. That said, black American men of west African descent would be to the NFL what the Kenyans and Ethiopians are to distance running.

Thank you!
Black Americans is to the NFL what Kenya/Ethiopia is to distance running. 80 Samoans in the NFL (all time) should not be deemed "utter domination" as the story suggests. Hell, I can think of a few small towns in Louisiana and Mississippi with populations less than 20k that could match those numbers.
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
