Alberto Salazar is the greatest coach ever. No one in history has in one year coached one 10k runner who never broke 4:00 in the mile to a 1:49 800 indoors and another marathoner/ cross country runner to a sub-13:00 5000 without running one single 1500 or 3000 tune-up.
Unprecedented.

Has he coached and world record holders or gold medalists?
Bobby Kersee, John Smith, and Tom Tellez have all done both of those things, multiple times i believe,
Take away the drugs and the drugged athletes and everything would look a lot different. You might make a case that the Chinese coach, Ma, was the best. Or maybe you like Charlie Francis or Trevor Graham - they had a lot of world records and medals. I guess they were the best. Or perhaps it was the coaching group behind the East German women's success - the have records that have goon unmatched for over 30 years now. Wow! They must have been the best coaches.

Agreed
He's obviously good but he has definite advantages over the rest of the coaches, most notably the $$$$ and the technology. Let's see how things go in London before he is crowned as the "greatest coach ever".
And the AR 5000 came just 3 months after leaving Hudson. Salazer didn't even claim most of the credit for that one. That performance shows just how effective marathon training can be for shorter distances. Lydiard strikes again.....
Tellez, Smith, & Kersee are already the greatest with dozens of Oly/WC medals & WRs.
These guys are for sure the best running coaches in the world, maybe the best running coaches in history.
I'd also add Clyde Hart to the list
I think that Jerry Schumacher is the best Track & Field Coach. He coaches Matt Tegenkamp, Chris Solinsky, Simon Bairu, Evan Jager, Tim Nelson, Josh Rohatinsky, Shalane Flanagan & Stuart Eagon and got 5 of his runners to the World Track Championship and Tegenkamp to the 2008 Olympics
Bobby Kersee? Really? Does he take (merely) above average athlets and juice them for 125 percent? How does he do with team development? Are his methods admired by his (elite coaching) peers and above criticism? Hmmmmm.
World's greatest? We, on this site, have no idea about any coaching outside the U.S., and athletics are taken far, far more seriously around the globe. BS'ing about America's greatest might be a better goal.

who is Simon Bairu, Evan Jager, Tim Nelson, Josh Rohatinsky, and Egan? Were they in the Olympics or the best in the USA at track?

I'm sorry but how many world or Olympic medals have these guys won?

Can you give any examples? I mean, i know he has coached Kerron Clement, Shawn Crawford, and Jackie Joyner. So there is some gold medalists. Michelle Perry, gold medalist at worlds. Gail Devers- i know she has won some medals. And at least 5 more olympic medalists.
Has Kersee ever gotten in trouble with drugs? I have never heard of rumors about him, but even if there are rumors...those are just rumors. There are also rumors that Elvis is alive, 9/11 was an inside job, and the Tupac faked his death.
Jerry Schumacher and Alberto Salazar haven't coached world record holders or gold medalists. therefore out of this convo.
Didn't UCLA coach Bobby Kersee coach UCLA alum Gail Devers to 11 Olympic and IAAF Outdoor WC medals ? She canned him in 2001 I know. Kersee coached UCLA alum Joanna Hayes, USC alum Allyson Felix, and UCLA alum Dawn Harper to Olympic/WC medals as well. Not to forget his wife, UCLA alum Jackie Joyner, a 10 time Oly/WC medalist. Isn't there a tally sheet somewhere for world class level elite coaches like UCLA's Kersee, UCLA alum Smith, Houston's Telez, UCLA's Bob Larsen, Adams State's Joe Vigil that have racked up Oly & Outdoor WC medals, and major RRthons top 3 finishers. I mean there are so many websites there's gotta be one that summarizes.
Using your logic we could say that all of the greatest distance coaches in the world live on the continent of Africa.

Absolutely. You gotta coach athletes to medals at top competitions to be "THE Greatest".
