What's the word on the Nike Mayfly flat - I read that it's only 4.6 ounces, but haven't been able to find them for sale anywhere.

They have been out for a while actually. You can still find a few pairs in the smaller sizes at Sweatshop in the UK. They will ship to the US too. And they sell them pretty cheap.

They are very good. Everyone it seems is wearing them in the UK. 25 pounds a pair at www.bournesports.com or sweatshop. That's about $37 to you.
actually a quite nice flat (though paula radcliffe mocked me for wearing "those goofy shoes", or some english euphinism like that :). one word of warning, make sure your toenails are cut AND filed, i.e., no sharp edges on your toenails or it will wear right through the mesh/nylon upper, and the shoes will be toast. other than that, nice and light, they feel great from 4.15-4.20 pace on up, much faster and they feel a little uncomfortable. unfortunately, it's still the athlete, not the shoes :).
CH.
Paula Radcliffe said what about the Mayflies? GOOFY?????
How much are we paying her again to promote our products? Somebody get her on the phone RIGHT F**KING NOW!
is it true they only last 100k? surely they have to last longer than that?
any good for a marathon? bearing in mind I don't like to race in well cushioned shoes.
Overrated they are.
explain please?
These shoes are indeed sweet.
These Nike Mayfly shoes are perhaps the best competition flats ever produced for retail distribution. The fit and feel of them is 100% performance. They indeed feel like an extension of my foot and I simply fly in them. They are fast, fast, fast. If you take this sport seriously you simply must wear the shoe to obtain maximum results in road racing. I don't believe the post about Paula as I have seen her on two seperate occassions wearing the shoe during up-tempo sessions during the Autumn months. Surely her opinion hasn't reversed in a quarter year's time. The price is unusually reasonable for competition footwear often costs two or three times the pound. I've yet to feel anything more than complete satisfaction with the durability issue. What may I ask is your best performance worth if not a new pair of shoes during the month? I make little of it other than fancy advertisements. The truth is in the wearing and I assure your performance in these dandies. Now if you're a lollygagger don't pretend otherwise and search out sturdy knockabouts.
is there a site that sells shoes to ppl that have bigger then size 10.5 feet...if there is cud u let me know
If theyre only lasting 100K then I would probably much rather buy the New Balance RC 150's. Theyre 5 ounces Flat, and last much longer than that.
JonnyO, they are 'designed' to only last 100k. They are a short term racing shoe, built as a throw away, not for long term investment. One of the girls in our group has a pair that she was given by the Nike van guys @ the national 6stage. She is only 16 and hasn't raced on the roads since then, so i cant pass comment. First road race, end of feb.....wait out.
They look like a good idea, but will it catch on?
Dave
Thanks for the advice FreshmanRunner,
any more info on the sort of mileage we can expect from the Nike Mayfly's
I don't see the point of running in a 250g shoe (I'm size 11) if I can find a much lighter shoe.

Remember, the sizes listed at Sweatshop are UK sizes, not US. UK size 10.5 is (I think but don't quote me on this) US size 11.5.
What's the strategy behind not offerring such shoes in the US. I mean if you spent the time designing them and manufacturing them, why not sell them everywhere?
They won't sell em to septics cos they know wot ur all like, 1st injury and it will be straight to court!
from what I've heard, they will be out in the US within the next year....I ordered mine from europe, and I love them. My roommate used them from a cross race and said they were amazing. So I'd recommend.
I got a pair of these about 6 months ago, I'm light, have no biomechanical problems and fairly quick but i thought they were crap. I think you need a harder soled shoe in a racer, not a sponge (which is what these are) and the fact these do not have a heel cup mean that ona cambered road or a slightly bumpy asphalt and your heel can actually fall off the midsole! I gave mine away. The concept is nice, they look good but they don't work, how many sponsored guys and girls do you see weaing them? Exactly.
That had me in stitches litigation. Probably true too!
