I'm curious as to who are the fastest runners out there, and if speed depends on whether the bypass was a double, triple, etc.

I often run well when incorporating a bypass. The bypasses I employ work well on an out an back course. I typically take a bathroom break about half way into the 'out' portion of the course. I then 'bypass' the rest of the out portion and the first part of the 'back' portion. This maneuver typically saves quite a bit of time and greatly improves the finish time/place.
Regardless of any theoretical ExPhys nonsense, runners absolutely do better on doubles.
