Even if Ryan Hall does happen to create a miracle and beat Meb Keflezighi in Boston 2010 its still a joke for so many posters to pick him over Meb. 38% to like 19% I guess you'll cheer against the AFRICAN American as long as there is a caucasin/American in the poll. Yes its possible for Hall to beat Meb but for so many to beat against Meb after his NYC win and other marathon accomplishment isn't sound logic!!!!!!!!!!
Ryan Hall over Meb Keflezighi in poll for Boston win- is a JOKE

Is that really you vipam?? Sometimes you are a little whacky, but this time.... it sounds like you've been drinking.
I picked Meb over Hall in NYC, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Hall beats Meb in NY. I think Hall will bounce back, and I don't see Meb having as good a day as he did in NY. It's tough to have brilliant back to back marathons at his age. But maybe he can do ti.
I won't make a pick until closer to race day, but just because Meb won NY and beat Hall recently doesn't make it unreasonable at all for people to pick Hall over Meb this time. -
Well what happened to Hall at Boston this past year? Was Merga just a lot stronger? Did Hall use up too much energy when he took the early lead?
Was he too tired by the time they got to the hills? That's where Merga opened up the big gap. I think there is a belief represented in the poll result that Meb knows and has run Boston better. Might not be an inaccuarte assessment.
I picked "other" because I don't see either American topping whichever Kenyan happens to have their "A" game that day. -

Meb? Oh, wait, I'm a couple months out of date here. -

I'm disappointed in this comment. VIPAM has contributed many good comments and threads to this site over the years, but his occasional suggestions of racism have seemed terribly misguided.
I picked "other" over both Hall and Meb, because I think that it's unlikely that either of them will defeat a reasonably strong field of African runners. But I don't think that it's silly to pick Hall over Meb for the win, and picking someone as the most likely winner is quite different from "cheer[ing] against the AFRICAN American." -
I'm with you, VIPAM. I went with "other". Meb would have been my #2 choice, and Hall third.

I agree, picking Ryan Hall to win is crazy... Its like most of you stupid Ryan Hall fanboys and your wacky ideas that just because he is a white American, he is the best runner in the history of the marathon and going to win everything.
I remember the poll on Letsrun for the NYC marathon. Most people picked Ryan Hall to win. Although very good, I don't think he is quite good enough to win a major marathon yet, plain and simple. The way you guys make him out to be so great is absurd.I even had someone tell me that they thought Ryan Hall had the world record for the marathon once! Do him a favour and stop making him seem way more amazing than he is.
Get a life, you stupid fanboys. -
I'm not racist, I'm just picking the guy with a faster PR.

While Meb beat Hall handily in NYC, I don't think it's faulty logic to pick someone with a 2:06:17 pr over someone with a 2:09:15 pr. I'm not rooting against Meb, but it would be nice to see Hall get his first marathon win. -
I think it is perfectly reasonable to pick the guy with the faster pr and the younger runner....However, I am predicting that Boston will limit the Kenyan contingent to increase the chance for an American to win. Seemed like very few were at NY for some reason.

It's well documented that once a "championship" is won, the hunger for victory goes down even for the most testosterone filled athletes (exceptions go out to true champions like Jordan or Tiger who have an unquenchable thirst for winning). Ryan Hall is hungrier because he learned a lot from last year and because he saw that another American can win. Meb has been doing his celebrity tours and I'm sure his training has been affected.
That being said, I have no idea who's going to edge whom, but I'm rooting for Hall (if Hall won last year, I would be rooting for Meb).

Exactly. IMO Hall has more upside than Meb and I think he has more raw talent. Can Meb win? Of course, but many of us think Hall is due for a big one. I was not thinking about their native country when placing my vote.

The chances of A beating B and the ratio of the chances of A beating everyone to B beating everyone are not the same.
In this case, I think that the likelihood of an American winning Boston is probably less than 57% which is only the likelihood of either of those two, according to those polled. (others have a non-zero chance even if small). -
It's a stupid poll. We don't even know the rest of the field. 'Other' should be at about 80-85% right now. Not to mention anything can happen on any given day. Meb wasn't really even considered in the top 3 to win NY.

when i saw the poll i thought maybe it meant who do you think will place higher between meb and hall? then i saw the word other and i take it that means the entire race, i think it is a JOKE to try to predict a winner when you dont know who is in the elite field.
i do know boston will try hard to get merga as he is the defending champion and since 4 time boston champion robert cheruiyiot is not running london, my GUESS is he will run boston. -
Meb isn't american

Adma, that was a great answer. It appears to have gone over their heads though -
Dude your not American! I am Apache and I choose Meb over Hall as he is the best USA runner...But I clicked other as our best isnt top 10 in Kenya, Ethopia etc...
