He ran 16miles, 9miles and 5miles the day before running 65.50 half marathon! crazy but cool.

Very interesting read. Thanks for posting. A lot of running...but it sounds like he is having fun with it so get on with it!
Mon am 60 pm 90
Tues am 60 pm road session
Weds am 60 pm 75
Thurs am 60 pm 75
Fri am 60 pm 75
Sat am grass session pm 45
Sun am 2hrs pm 45
2x core a day. Extra run 30-35 where possible (I make it possible though!! 2am runs are not unheard of!!!) + lot's of sit ups.
Tues examples 6*mile, 3*2mile, 10*k
Thurs, 1k, 2k, 1k, 2k etc, 20*400, 2k-12*400-2k. Tempo
Sat- 10-8*3-10 etc
Paces- I don't really run slower than 6 min per mile.
I'm sorry, but I just don't believe this. This guy's PRs are 14:28, 30:03, and 65:49, he does insane mileage, and he never runs slower than 6:00 pace. It seems like he is obsessed with his training log and his hardcore image.
If you just take the stuff he has listed, and assume a couple miles warmup/cooldown for each session, then that is 158 miles. Not to mention his extra runs, which are implied to be quite prevalent. So he's doing 180 miles per week, 2-3 sessions a week, and he doesn't run slower than 6:00 pace.
Yeah. Right.
It's all true I'm sorry to say.
who knows how much faster he'd run if he actually trained properly
Maybe he did that one week, but that is not a typical week. He would love for you to think that, I'm sure.

No shit. That guy is a fool. His PRs aren't even any good. If he slowed down and trained smarter he might be a decent runner.

Given that he did run the race time, I'd say the hardcore image has actually been earned in this case
Inspiring for those of us who feel that we have limited time to train. Cheers.
Are we saying that sub 66 half for a teenager isn't really very good?
Exactly, there are two ways to look at that training. You could get all jealous and envious that there is somebody out there working harder than you. Or, you could say 'well if he can do that ridiculous schedule then I can certainly do whatever I'm trying to do.'
I run about 105-110 mpw in 9 runs, balanced with full-time PhD grad school, a grad assistant job, and volunteer work for a non-profit. People tell me I am crazy to be keeping on with my running and am gonna have to quit. I on the other hand am hoping to add in some more training (strength/core training twice/week, maybe a couple more doubles). When I try to rework my schedule to do that, I will certainly be thinking about this guy!
My question for this guy is when does he do homework? He talks about how he manages to get to 6-7 hours of lectures per week, fine. But how does he study? Does he have a photographic memory or something?
It's too bad he's going to practice socialized medicine in socailist Great Britain. Most of the bright people over there work in finance.
No wonder he's got a broken foot.
So what??
14 28
30 03
hes 19, we have that in america...
german, chirs, luke for example are all 19 or under.
No one cares about him

And there p.r's are a LOT faster...
Yeh coz German is flying atm. Its unfair judging him on his 5k time when he is training for the London Marathon next spring. His injury was from falling over not an overuse injury.
Is his foot broken?
It was from playing Sunday league I thought anyway?
Broke it while training, not football. you need to forget the 5k / 10k times, fact is he has just run a British record for the half marathon so he is the fastest guy in Britain EVER at 19.
good read

It is good, yes. But it's not great. It doesn't line up to that training at all. He should just let his time speak for itself without trying to augment his image with the other stuff.
I'm not saying that his training is stupid. I'm saying that it's grossly exaggerated in that interview. It is 100% impossible that he runs 180 miles per week, all sub-6:00 in addition to workouts, on a regular basis. At least one of the variables is exaggerated. Haile Gebrselassie would have trouble pulling that off on a weekly basis.
I actually know the guy.I met him in a cross country race in East Midlands(leicestershire) and he gave me a similar scenario about his training regime same as the one in the thread. He is very good, very committed and still very yound.I dare say he is the sort of guy British athletics has been searching for in a long time.By the way i do not think he has a coach yet neither is he on lottary funding.
