Good thing Nike doesn't sponsor the Nobel Peace Prize, Heisman, or The Oscar's.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
That sounds right. I think he's the best Nike coach.
Good thing you're not jealous, Gene.
the latest issue of Runner's World said the same thing,
calling him something like a runner's dream coach.
I guess one man's dream is another's nightmare
The readers gave an honorable mention to Jack Daniels and Terrence Mahon, I guess they never heard of anyone else.

Well, as a personal friend of Alerto's, I am not surprised that some anonymous asshat at this site is not a fan.
Do you have any idea how you people are looked upon by the sane running community?

Hope that is working out for you.

This message board is the perfect situation for these pimply faced little cowards. They get to come here and talk all tough and never have to back up or take responsibility for anything they say. Why it's so satisfying for them I'll never know. But then, I guess I don't understand such hypocritical cowardice.
Say hello to Alerto for me.
The point is it's ridiculous for him to accept an award from his employer. McDonald's employees can't win free Big Mac's when they have contests.
Good one.
When you say..."personal friend of Alerto's"? To B or not to B?
I have to ask, just how personal?
Do you help shave his back?
I love how the knee-jerk reaction is that because I personally do not like him I am some know-nothing pimply faced little kid.
I am older than Alberto.
I have been running longer than Alberto.
I have been coaching longer than Alberto and unless you were buddies with him in Wayland than I have probably known him longer than you.
Yes, I remain not an AlSal fan
Get over it, there's a lot of people in running I've met over the decades that are not likable.
We really don't have a way to measure coaching performance with the accuracy that we measure running performance. Al and all the rest of us know that. We know that coaching success is measured by the performance of other unique people so cannot be finely graded and separated from the circumstance of program support and plain luck.
All the good and serious athletes I know who have taken up coaching are good and serious coaches but they cannot compare their coaching with the precision of their racing times and places.
Al said himself, "there are many equal or better..." So I see this designation as more than a celebration of one coach, but of coaching in general.
Tom
He's done some great things this year with a number of athletes. I'll become a believer when he does something with Alan Webb.
Congratulations to Al Salazar, a man who has devoted himself to running and to improving distance running in the United States. Like many from Cuban immigrant families, Alberto is a loyal American who understands the values of freedom and hard work. Truly, he had breakthroughs with some of his athletes this year, and truly he deserves this award.
By the way, you pimply faced teen-agers, and you old washed up farts who cannot stand Al's sucess, you are sick, ignorant individuals.

Really you've been coaching longer than him?
Well, where are your world class athletes?
Oh wait, I forgot that just because you're older than him that makes you better...
Tom Cruise is entirely of Welsh, German and Irish heritage.
I have to ask:
Why do people on this board dislike Alberto Salazar? It seems to me that he's done wonders for his athletes. He takes the good ones and turns them great.
Is there something I'm missing because by the standards set up by Letsrun posters its appears to be that no coach nor any athlete can be considered great unless he's a white American that has an AR.
Educate me.

on lets run people are what their detractors or fans make them. who they are is rarely grounded in reality.

So, let me see if I got this right. The last 2 responses are ripping people for being anonymous. Yet neither of you identify yourself. The last line of the post above refers to "hypocritical cowardice.." So, who's the hypocritical coward now?
