Yes it is.
Yes it is.
Every race had a ton of huge underperformers.
Who is she??? What has she done before this preformance?
NCAA 5k champion...
Still a huge upset. Most people didn't have her in the top 2...

HAHAHA.
She was a 4-time 3200 state champ in Ohio. She won 2 xc state titles and was beaten by one second in another.
She was the 2003 national aau champion in xc. She has been running at a high level and improving since she was at least 14. Not sure when she started running.
IIRC, she finished well enough at USATF nationals in the 5000 to make the team for worlds, but she didn't have the standard. She took one or two shots at the standard, didn't make it, and opted to rest up for collegiate running.
She narrowly missed making FLN multiple years in high school. One year she won the frosh/soph race, with a time that would have gotten her to San Diego had she just run the seeded race. Another year she finished in the low teens... glad to see her continuing to improve! Yeah Bizzarri!

Top 3 at US champs, outdoor NCAA 5k champ and ppl think this is the biggest upset in history? No doubt an upset, but considering what she's accomplished, hard to consider it the biggest.
woo! 2x NCAA champ !
I would definitely think this was the biggest upset. But Barringer and Kuijiken more lost it for themselves than Angela won it. If she had beat Barringer and Barringer was on her game or even just slightly off it I would agree, but she didn't. She beat a 100+ placed Barringer. So it's more of her upset over Kuijiken, which isn't that surprising, IMO.
Go Angela! Congrats to her on a smart run race and another NCAA title!!!!
People who call Angela's performance today THE biggest upset shouldn't consider yourselves true track and cross country fans. If you were, you would know who she is and what she is capable of. Previous to this race, her titles included NCAA CHAMPION in them, that's good enough for anyone to have a shot at the W. But, true, it is an upset, but the BIGGEST EVER IN HISTORY of NCAA? Not so.
I think Allie Mac winning would have beenthe biggiest upset...she almost did it too!
I love her..you know...kinda like a favorite toy.
Name a bigger one then.
She was third at USA Nationals; would have been on the WC team if she had a little bit better 5000 mark (but was too fried by the end of the season to be gearing up for that).
Angela Bizzarri was a huge upset, but that is only because Jenny Barringer was such a favorite going into the race. Bizzarri is no slouch. She was the NCAA champ over 5000m this spring and finished third at USAs in the same event, not going to Worlds because she didn't have the A-standard. She was severely underrated this entire season.
I actually picked Bizzari to win but picked Kujiken for second and Barringer for third. I should have tried the prediction contest.
Its definitely a surprise but I would call Bob Kennedy winning as a freshman the biggest upset ever closely followed by Aaron Ramirez win in 1986 when Joe Falcon tripped.
Kennedy was a 4:05 miler who never broke 9:00 in high school and won over a weak Footlocker field. Impressive but no one expects freshmen like that to win over 10k at NCAA. He was 5th at Regionals but did win the Big 10.
Ramirez was older but up to his cross title whad prs of 14:14 for 5000 and 8:40 for the steeple.
I don't recall knowing anything at all about Kim Betz who won in 1988 either. That must have been an upset.
Bizarri has already established herself with her National title in the 5000 last spring.
it's not a huge upset when the favorites totally bomb. it's just unexpected.
plus, she's a fricken' ncaa champ already!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
