Ken Schoppmann Richmond Marathon:
2009: a 1:44:20 half split, no 20-mile split, and a 3:07:28 finish. 1:44/1:23 splits? yeah, right
2008: a 1:47:03 half split, no 20-mile split, a 3:18:36 finish. 1:47/1:31 split?
Appears he was DQ'd from the 2008 Delaware marathon. Marathonguide.com has a 3:08 result, but he's not on the race web site.
He ran Boston this year. Wonder if his BQ time was legit?
Though not likely, those half splits aren't out of the realm of possibility (unlike some of the other cheaters we've found). I've seen plenty of people with those splits, just reversed :)
However, the fact that he has no 20-mile split back-to-back years certainly raises some red flags.
I looked him up on the BAA site. 1:40 for 1st 1/2. Finished in 3:34. If you look at his splits there almost even throughout. 23 min 5k's early, slowed to 26 and some 27's. No real significant differences.
Did this guy date your sister or something?

dare say those results prove he couldn't have run a 1:23 second half last weekend in Richmond.
Richmond is an easy course to cut.. the finish is less than 2 miles from miles 16 - 18... but they have a chip mat at the 20 mile point for a good reason.

No it's not. Not for the average Joe who only runs to finish. They usually crash. They know they will.
I would argue that he ran too fast in the early miles, showing he is not well trained or well conditioned.
So what? Does anybody care that this guy, a guy who ran a 3:30+ marathon cheated? I mean do we really care?
Someone who didn't get a slot in Boston cause of this cheater might care.

You cared enough to post, and yes, I like to see cheaters called out no matter how fast or slow they are.

I love it when letrun outs a cheater. It's friggin hilarious and the cheating always winds up being confirmed by witnesses and people in the know about the course.
You cant lie about your mile time in 8th grade gym class without someone here calling you out.
Cheaters to date (?): Martin Franklin, William Juarena, the chick from the Sarasota and Detroit marathons, the many cheaters of Jean's Marines, the wannabe Kenyan guy. Did I miss a few?
Chicago Marathon is a good one. I ran it in 2004 and out of curiousity scanned the results with splits. I caught three without much effort.
There's a dogleg at 25K that's easy to cut (but has a mat). Also, the HM point is not far from the finish.
This guy's history shows a mid-packer that races a lot then cuts the course in marathons.
This is sad and the guy must have some issues.

I just don't understand the point. Running seems like one of those things that you do simply to prove to yourself that you can do it. I don't really think you do yourself any favors by cheating. Everyone and their mother has finished a marathon, it isn't like anyone cares if you ran 3:08 or 3:28, no one even knows the difference.
