So many of you people are picking OSU for the win, but you seem to be forgetting German's tendency towards taking a nose dive during championship races. If German somersaults his way out of the race again, can OSU still win it?

in what world do you live in where 1 time is a tendency?
youre a f***ing idiot
I remember him backing out of indoor nationals. I agree he has a problem. OSU will not win
You must have working the streets when he won outdoor Ncaa 1500m championships?

No, they can't win it and won't win it.
If German doesn't nose dive and he WINS the NCAA Cross Country Title, OSU still won't win because Derrick will be 2nd and Stanfords 2,3,4, and 5 will be in front of OSU's 3rd runner.
He took a nosedive at Footlocker his senior year also. I know he didn't drop out, but he did not perform well.
I think he is a much better track runner than CC for some reason.
Have any of the German critics actually ever competed in a national meet?

Wasn't he supposed to be injured at that point too? I think he's prone to injury, not prone to flopping. Oh, and better at track than CC? Sure, he's a 15/5k guy, not 5k/10k like Derrick or Puskedra.

He was what, 3rd? The high expectations on him are what makes idiots like you think that's a nosedive. Hell, a nosedive in Terre Haute Monday would probably be finishing 15-20. And OSU COULD win with that, Girma is the key to their chances. Not Fernandez.

so in your world getting 4th behind a 13:55 5k guy, a guy who got 5th at NCAAs the next year, and a guy who had a good enough day to beat them all (and beating an 8:47 gu7) is a "nose dive?"
yes, german was favored and yes, he had an off day but that was hardly a nose dive...that has nothing to do with a tendency towards dropping out
that would be like german getting 13th this year, which if happens, yes german could win nationals
and as for indoor...he "bowed out" in order to do what he felt would allow him to be at his best for world cross country, which was what he and his coach decided was his priority
in no way do either of these things lend one to believe german will blow up or drop out at NCAA cross country
last year, yes he went down with and injury, so if you fall into the dumbf*** category that believes one time is a "tendency" yes, feel free to expect this
but to answer a more logical version of the question, rather than one of a jealous douche bag, no...OSU should be favored if all their top 4 run decent and their 5th runs well, but they are so shallow that if one of their top 4 falters, their screwed
change "german could win nationals" to yes, OSU could still win nationals (with german 13-15)
I have no allegiance to German, but people are really stupid.
The kid won Junior Nats Cross, was the top US finisher at World Cross, and won the 1500 at NCAAs. He then went on to finish what, 5th in the 5K at USATFs while setting a Junior Record.
I assume he won his Scholastic 2-mile when he set the record as well as some mile he ran beforehand.
He finished 3rd at Footlocker behind guys who are not that much worse then him.
Sounds to me he does anything BUT flop. NCAA cross... no matter what the real story is (injury, mental lapse, etc) was and has proven to be a fluke occurrence during a race.
To say otherwise is plain old wrong. The kid can't win every time no matter how good he is. Derrick is nearly as good... There is no shame to losing to him from time to time. Bob Kennedy lost to Todd Williams from time to time too. Takes nothing away from BK, who was overall the superior runner, imho.
German 2007: Oh shit I'm going to get 3rd, my foot hurts.
German 2008: Oh shit it's 8k and I might not even get 3rd, Ouch!!! my leg broke!
German 2009: Oh shit it's 1/2 way and they're still ahead of me, Ouch!!!
ever since footlocker he has nosedived in cross every year.

people like you are absolutely impossible to argue with
you just keep repeating the same idiotic bullshit, without putting more than 5 seconds of analysis or thought into it
you dont read any opposing viewpoints or bother to respond to points they bring up with reasons they may be incorrect
your position is...this is what I think, and im going to keep saying it to a last stand in face of all logic or reason, no matter how stupid or childish it makes me look
basically, you contribute nothing to society (or at least to this message board)
theres always suicide (think about it)
The fact that so many people still call german a choker or that he doesn't perform in big races is enough to make me want to leave letsrun. It's such a stupid argument and is bringing down the sport/website. It the moderators should delete any posts it should be stupid ones like the one on here. If people are just trolling then they should just stop, because this should be a place where serious discussions can take place.

It's called a troll. Relax, you're going to give yourself a heart attack.

Yeah, we all need to straighten up and have "serious discussions" or else!
