Don't know about of all time, but he will be the next American to win a marathon. He'll do it before Hall.
Yeah right you sycophants are too much
Actually Ritz hasn't even won a major HALF marathon yet.
So what will you say when Meb adds a fast marathon sub 2:08 to his resume in 2010?
Olympic Silver Medal
Winner of NYC marathon
American Recordholder at 10000m
TWENTY (20) USA national titles
2 time Olympic trial 10000m Champion
Ritz and Ryan are younger than Meb but don't act like they are 21 years olds. They are slightly younger than Meb but haven't accomplished nearly half of what he has accomplished.
Why the need to belittle Meb's ACTUALLY accomplishments to fantasize about what upcomers may have done against him?
Slightly???? Hall is like 7 years younger. Get a clue.

Ritz is about to belittle Meb's 10k accomplishments this spring by 14 seconds...at least!
meb beat ritz in the london marathon about 6 months ago.
ritz looks like he raised his running to a higher level this summer, nevertheless meb has to be the USA"S top marathoner right now.
i also think ritz will break the 10k record next year.
i also think meb can lower his 10k and half marathon and marathon next.
teg, rupp and possibly even derrick can make the all time world top 100 list, so distance running will be fun next year.
i am not sure but i think meb beat ritz in a half marathon this year as well.

as it is, Meb's record has stood for over 8 years, and could make it to 9 this spring.
Meb's training has been going quite well for him the past few months. he's fully healed, has a great training environment and is driven. that's not to say that Ritz isn't, but Meb is well on his way to doing even more--today was a testament. He told a good friend of mine right before his win in the Half Marathon that his training is better than it has ever been: thus, 2009 has been a great year for him. But to say that Ritz is going to "belittle his 10k accomplishments" is a ridiculous statement. Ritz cannot earn 2 US 10k track titles in 1 year. he can get 1 US 10k track title and maybe even a new US record, but that would not count as "belittling" Meb.
Why are you comparing two Americans to an Eritrean?
What is the point of this stupid thread. The guy has just won the jewel in the crown of world and American marathons. He is the first American to win this event since Alberto Salazar; yes the first American to win it in 27 years .And yes he is an an American citizen even though he was born in Africa, and no matter what narrow minded folks think. He won New York less than 48 hrs ago and already some idiots are belittling his achievement. And to the original poster, lets wait till they race again in a marathon before making statements like that.

That should be "beatEN" Meb, I think.
IRRELEVANT AND NON-REALITY - Ritz did not race.
Normally Letsrun does a pretty job of selecting threads to highlight on its front page; however, to pick this one is a huge slap to Mebrahtom and his group. There has NOT been an American winner in 27 years and then Mebrahtom goes out and does it with few believing in him and this website promptly post a stupid topic to detract instead of properly celebrating his accomplishment for at least 24 hours!!!!

As stated elsewhere, there are many, many other countries where in order to be considered a full, legitimate member of the nation one must:
1) be of a certain race
2) be of a certain religion
3) be of a family which has resided in said nation for umpteen generations
.
.
.
But this is America. Meb is an American. And all the best of America salutes his acheivement.
And "shrewd observer" appears to have an attitude about nationality which is much more in line with what would be understood as being the norm in many, many backward nations of the world. Perhaps shrewd observer would feel more comfortable residing in such a nation rather than in one founded on the ideas that "All men are created equal" and that to be an American required allegiance to America and American ideals more so than 1), 2) or 3) above.
Very well said VIPAM! I was thinking the same thing.
To change the tone a bit....
I used to have to race against Meb back in the day (College). Very glad to see him race so well and take a win for the first time in 27? years!!! He's the man. He surprised me to say the least. Good job Meb.
