Liza Hunter Galcan's story not buyable

who cares? she sucks anyhow, she is 40 yrs old and a drug cheat...

She did it for the children.

I actually think she is telling the truth. Why didn't she test positive previously? She has been to two Olympics and the WC. Surely, she was tested at those events. She must have also been tested numerous times by the NZ federation. Her running has been consistently geared towards making the NZ team. So, she has been under their testing regimine for years.

She is still a doper and may have won SA RnR with the benefit of EPO (never heard anything about the timing of the positive test v. races). But to say that she has built a career on doping (as letsrun wants to) assumes that she has either never been tested prior to the positive or was subject to inept testing.

I think she is really an Andy Petit doper. She doped in order to try to recover from an injury, not to win a race. Fortunately, in running, that is still doping. But concluding that her whole career has been the result of doping requires major assumptions about prior testing that are not warranted. I think this is a sad story of a great athlete making a bad decision at the end of her career to try to beat out an injury, not a medicore athlete who was able to become a world class runner by doping.

Leaver her alone.

She was so emotionally beat up by the accident, the mean spirited NZ Olympic committee and her hamstring injury that she felt like she had to do something. She just wanted to be better and running is what makes her happy.

She didn't even know it was EPO at first, she thought it was wound healing amino acids. Then she only took it only three times and threw it away. She didn't even take it until that mean email for the NZ committee that said "You failed!' I mean how can that taint her whole career? And she suffered enough, I mean her husband was upset with her.

We all need to look at what we did to help her get to this point. There are contributing factors. She kept giving more and more and it was never enough for us!

you guys arent seeing the picture. she was on the epo for the olympics, thats why she got the "you failed" email from the federation. they were administering the drug to her and she blew it, and a week or month or whatever it was she ran a PR...she either choked at bejing or peaked to late.

just like gatlin ducking powell, the top people got mad and told him he was through. Ramzi runs two races a year, they tell him to play ball or he is done. this girl ran like shit for the new zeeland federation, and they were the ones giving her epo.

That is quite a conspiracy theory. Are you a Truther or a Birther as well?

Story is complete bullshit. Even many of her closest San Antonio friends suspect she was doping before she was busted. But sometimes being friends with someone who engages in suspect/immoral behavior causes one to look the other way. She was as a local 1/2 marathon last weekend observing and standing around. Had about 3 people other than family that would stand next to her in the crowd. According to some of the local runners, they felt very uncomfortable with her being there and didn't know what to say to her so they simply avoided her. I guess if she and her husband tell the story enough they will convince themselves it's true.

I agree, over the year she has made very little money with her running. Sure there has been a couple of good paychecks but what about the many more that she got very little or nothing. Her track record seems to have been all about trying to make teams, going way back. If she had been doing it for that many years she would have be an expert by now. I dont believe that the testers would have had to chase her like they do to take the "big boys" down. If I'm not mistaken she ran a high 2:40 marathon a few months after her first child was born. There arent too many women out there that train their whole lives that can achieve a time like that, pre or post birth.

Her timeline could NOT have happened the way she tells it.

EPO can only be detected within 48hrs at most, of injection. That's been proven. It's the sensitivity of the test.

Therefore, part of her story has to be crap.

No it didnt happen the way she tells it. It happended that way you tell it, because you were there right? And you are an expert right? Check your sources, it can be detected up to 7 days after being injected. Therefore, you are missing the point.

It depends on the dosing, but check your sources. That's why I quoted the longest that the test is generally valid. I confirmed this with an expert on drug use in cycling. It's 48hrs or less.

You don't just take epo or other banned PEDs to help recover from an injury. If you want to do that go to a doctor and get something that is actually designed to help you recover and legal at the same time.

She is as full of crap as Andy Pettite.

Whether in sport or on the running threads, Liza once again proves to be a divisive individual.

so despite only taking the last hit of epo a few days before the testers arrived... and not being due to have another for around a week... she wants us to believe she had already made up her mind to stop taking it?

Also... she peddles that line " I didn't know it was EPO at first"... before going on to quite clearly concede she knew absolutely that it was EPO before using it.

She also expects people to now believe every word, when she denied it and hid from it right up until the final deadline and B test... She KNEW she had cheated, KNEW she was very close to being caught, and still tried to get away with it somehow.

AND NOW SHE IS SORRY!!!!!

But she was on EPO when she went to WDW and won the 1/2 marathon there. So she cheated to win an event. Even though she wasn't running for cash. Cheater....... plain and simple a cheater!

You know what kinda ticks me off?

Judging by the video, her husband does pretty well. Nice house, 4 kids.

And the bitch still felt she had any reason to cheat.

It is nearly 2010, and no where along the line was she offered counseling, or did she decide to avail herself of the psychological community in order to NOT FRIGGIN CHEAT.

The best case scenario is she did this is because she is stupid. Next best, because she wanted to get caught and bring shame-revenge on NZ for treating her like crap. The next? She just thought she could somehow get away with it.

None of these things make her a rocket scientist, or a good person.

Yes, the car accident, and injuries to her family are tragic.

But where was her moral center, her moral intelligence.

Here is another aspect, on that NZ tv interview, she has the outer affect of a 40 year old 4 year old...Contrite, but someone else started it.

It is pathetic.

The BEST response she could have had to being caught, was that she should have checked her self in to a mental hospital for a few weeks, and then continued treatment.

She's already privileged, and then she has to try and cheat others too.

Odds are if she had not been caught, she would have gone to Mexico and bought another batch, and tried it for a race.

Running can be an addiction, and some of that may be in here for her...but come on. You're 40. You are supposed to be the one teaching your children right from wrong.

I hope she reads this; I hope that she realizes she needs to step up her confession and apologies to a much higher level.

When did she deny it? When? Produce the evidence/document that backs this slander up?

Having the B Sample tested is protocol. EVERYONE who has a positive A Sample has the B Sample tested, without question.

Do you really think she expects EVERYONE to believe her? Come on even Obama cant deliver those kind of statistics.

Liza should have denied taking EPO and claimed a false positive, the test is controversial, it has its issues.
