I just got an Amphipod Xinglet for running in the pre-dawn hours. The images I have seen of the product appear to imply that the waist strap would actually fit somewhere around the waist. However, even with the height belt loosened entirely, the waist strap is above my belly button at rest and rides up another inch or so when I'm running, to just below my rib cage. Is this how it fits other runners, or do I just have a freakishly long torso?
Sounds like you have a longish torso. They do fit a touch on the short side, but not up to my ribcage or anything.

I wear all black and pop out at cars in the morning. It gets me ready for work.
They fit kind of short, how tall are you? I am 6' and it fits right around y belly button with the straps all the way out.
The straps are all the way out. It fits around my belly button when I put it on, but more or less instantly rides up to just below my rib cage. Paradoxically, the shoulder straps are then loose but the "waist" strap is tight. It's hard to see how that's a waist strap, unless they subscribe to a 1950s definition of apparel where pants were expected to be pulled up to one's nipples. I had hoped for a better fit for the money I paid, but at least it's highly reflective.
BTW, I like to think I trend more to the side of dandy boy.
How snug do you have the waistband then? If its too tight, its always going to ride up, same as a Fuel Belt. Tighten up the shoulder straps a little and loosen the waist and it won't ride up.
