freak show = People missing limbs.
You really used to consider people who were missing limbs freak shows?
And you needed to have someone born into your immediate family with a birth defect to find compassion for disfigured people?
You may be the most messed up person on this thread.
Walmart is an abomination and a large cause of the ruination of this country.
To those defending the Walton family, you should know they have a militarized compound in Arkansas prepared for the apocolypse of their own making.
They will rape the American people as long and as hard as they can, and then save themselves.
Every person on this board (and in this nation) should watch the film "Walmart: The high cost of low prices" to get a better picture of the galling depths this monster will sink to in order to profit. also check walmartwatch.com
One of the saddest and most insidious problems of the Walmart tragedy is the way the disgusting poor described in this thread will DEFEND Walmart to "elites" who point out the problems. They fail to realize that the store is one of the main causes of their condition in the first place--namely, by destroying local economies and moving blue collar jobs out of the country.
Walking into Walmart is to see the failure of globalization. It is enraging to hear pundits talk about an "innovation economy" in America as a solution to our broken system. Most humans (Americans included, and increasingly so) are STUPID. They need, and have always needed, low-intelligence, blue collar jobs that pay a living wage. To think that America will provide the "ideas" for the rest of the world to manufacture is as arrogant as it is false. One look in your Walmart shows we are not a nation of designers and innovators.
We are, increasingly, a nation of dreadfully obese, lazy, obnoxious, and entitled ignoramuses who deserve the pain we will experience over the next century.
It is the duty of every thinking American to boycott Walmart and its ilk, and to tell your friends to do the same. If not, prepare for a future when the Walmart cretin is not a "freakshow" but the status quo.
However, as has been pointed out previously, don't begrudge the disenfranchised poor; instead, direct your anger towards those who benefit: the Waltons, their management, and every other corporate pirate. To use a phrase from ghetto culture (which is another depressing modern american habit, but which is very apt here) Hate the game, not the player.
do you know who was leading group lobbying for a raise in the minimum wage? yep, wal-mart.
real original thoughts, great try.

If true, I certainly hope you can figure out why.

I hate to say it but i like wal-mart sometimes. Last weekend it saved my life.
Saved your life?
Jeezus most of the people on this board need a life.
I avoid Walmart at all costs. I can find anything they have in their store at any other place. I don't care if I have to go to multiple places or pay slightly more.

Way to totally change his quote and misrepresent what he/she had to say.
That being said, I agree with what you are both trying to say.
Sometimes life throws things at you and you learn from them. They guy learned from an experience he had. Nothing wrong with that...
"The New Age of Walmart"
This is airing on CNBC tonight. It should be very interesting.

Here's a link for the doubters. Talks about how signing on to be a supplier to Walmart was the ruination of Vlasic pickles.

Can't anyone see the cycle?
They are obese because they eat cheap, processed, and in some cases (corn syrup)government subsidized foods that are terrible for them. And where do they aquire such cheap unhealthy foods to perpetuate the cycle? Of course the jobs that pay an adequate amount so that they might be able to break the cycle are fading. Where have they gone? Choked out by some some huge company that has gotten multi tax breaks for years and years and bring in cheap crap from China without much of an import tax. And the name of this company?
I will pay slightly more to avoid this giant so that I can at least "think" that my children have a chance.
Link didn't post. It's www dot fastcompany dot com slash magazine slash 77 slash walmart.html
You guys are rude as hell. You keep talking about massive blubbery booty but have no links to pictures of Stephanie Hightower and her big butt jiggling around. Now show some country hospitality and give us some links.
It's all about the money...can't take it with you...poor Sammy...feeling this way before checking out for the final time.
Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, confessed on his deathbed, “I blew it.” Wow! One of the richest men in the world thinks he blew it. How is that possible? Did he miss a huge business opportunity? No—he missed a huge family opportunity. Walton barely knew his youngest son or grandchildren and had scarred relationships with his wife and other family members. On his deathbed, one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time wasn’t thinking about professional wins, but about personal losses.
Here is the link the other guy was talking about that supports what some of us have already stated.

This is much like one of the staples of our foreign policy (and which fattens the bank accounts of our subsidized farming millionaires): dumping subsidized agri-products on 3rd world countries, which undercuts the ability of local farmers to create any kind of agri-economy (they can't compete w/ subsidized prices). But we feel so good about ourselves by doing so.
I didnt check whole thread but someone must have posted this??
The point is ladies and gentleman that greed for lack of a better word is good....
Jeez, for those that knock walmart down as a corporate blood sucking company probably don't own any stocks in a company. What if the company you invest stock in decides to stop pursuing corporate growth and be willing to accept mediocre earnings. You probably wouldn't be too happy. I may be wrong here but public corporations like Walmart have a fiduciary responsibility to its stockholders. Who in their right mind would invest in a company that doesn't pursue profit??
Walmart started out as a mom&pop store but has become the epitome of how soulless a publicly owned corporation can become.

Santelik? haha
If you like to tap white male or female whales, Walmart is the place to make your move. People hate Walmart, but China (the real hidden owners) has done guys who like white whales a big favor by providing pickup places all of the United States.
Read the link, pinhead. One of my family members works for a supplier of Wal-mart and they drove them out of business. To meet the prices they had to outsource overseas and now they are about to close their doors because there is NO money being made on their products. It started with their US plants and eventually hit corporate. Now you buy one of these household products that used to last years and you are getting imported garbage that is no good in about 18-24 months. Look beyond one corporation and their stock and think about what they are doing to all those who supply to Wal-mart.
