Seriously... We all know that breaking 13:00 has a HUGE mental barrier associated with it. Their seasons' so far haven't been all that bad. After seeing one of their peers do it, is it likely that either will do it tomorrow? The race promises to be a fast one... Just saying.
Will Teg or Solinsky break 13:00 now that Ritz has?

Teg, I'll go with yes, assuming the race is paced fast enough.
Solinsky, sorry no. Not yet anyway.
I'd love to be wrong about Solinsky. -
Thanks for bringing an original question to debate!
-
A better question is...will Bekele break 13 in Brussels? This would determine whether any others runners do.
Ignorant question - are there pacers/rabbits at in this 5K? -
Teg's pr is less than a second a lap slower than the new AR and I think he has physical ability to run 12:55 and I think he has to be going after it tomorrow. However, there are so many factors - weather, pacing, how Teg recovered from the WS - that it's going to be tight.
Ritz's patience to run his race to break the AR was amazing, if the early pacing is a little slower at Brussels than it was at Zurich last week, but still fast enough to keep Teg on record pace that will really help. Going to be fun to watch! -
Ritz's performance tells me that an American can break 12:50 in the next few years. This is a guy who doesn't have the best top end speed - but was basically redlining the entire race and held it. Imagine if Teg was at the same spot with 300 to go? I would like to imagine Teg could have been mighty close to 12:50.
-
I can't believe that poll on the front page doesn't have an option for the fastest American tomorrow not running faster than 13.10. It's more than likely that at least one of them will, but by no means a given

If the guys have been taking the same "juice" as ritz then maybe sub 13.05, other wise they will struggle to go under 13.15.....it being end of season and all
-
would solinsky be in the race to pace teg through 3/4k ?

Yup... seeing as how nobody is in shape at the end of their season -

Oh come on 5k. Didn't you know? A peak only lasts 3 days. Teg and Solinsky peaked for the world champs. pshhhh -
Once again Teg'n'Crew have given themselves too few opportunities to make use of the fitness they spent all year building. When they ran well in the 3K at Pre it was the usual, "We haven't touched speed yet" and "Just you wait," and then they've raced only a few times since then. Meanwhile, Bekele and his chasers have raced more times since Pre than the Wisco ex-pats have all year.
-
I agree that Teg'n'Crew (I like that...i'm stealing it) don't race much. I'd love to see them race more. I always wonder how you can be race sharp if you don't race. But then, I was, am, and always will be light years behind them. Whatever.
My sarcastic point above was that a peak last several weeks to a month or so...so the assertion that it's late season now and no one is in shape anymore is likely wrong. anyway... -

I assume the meet is being aired live via Internet stream. If so, does anyone have the link? Thanks. -

Never mind. Found it. -
KB stated he wanted to win as his first priority, but also to run faster than he did in Zurich, which means he will try to dip under 12:50 - Looks like a great opportunity for Teg to go low!
-
In the 13:07, Teg showed the ability to go sub 13, as that was a kicker's race and he beat very good comp. In a faster paced race, this week, he should be there between BK and Ritz. Solinsky can get low 13, thirteen oh three is my prediction.
-
You guys show a lot of disrespect to a 5k record that lasted 13 years and couldn't even be bested by a 3:26 1500 meter runner over the past couple years.
-
Hey now, it's not disrespectful to be excited about someone having a legitimate shot at dipping under 13:00. We should all support our runners and saying we hope Teg goes sub 13 is not disrespectful to anyone.
I find it more disrespectful that people say they are surprised Ritz broke the AR. It's kind of like saying "he wasn't good enough to get it." That is disrespect. Saying "I hope Teg gets it." Is not disrespectful.
P.S. When exactly did Lagat even TRY for the 5k record? Never - he hasn't run for "time" since he's become an American citizen. Now days he runs for place. So saying a 3:26 guy can't even get it is stupid.

Yeah! You STAND UP when you mention that American record, godammit, and look proud that BK cracked 13 when it was still a big deal!
