To Doug Logan: Now that you are back from Berlin, how about 1) getting us federal stimulus money to build a national track & field and soccer stadium on the site of the old L.A. Sports Arena, 2) moving USATF out of Indianapolis to Hollywood where the TV / Media Companies are located. We need to bring USATF to the mainstream world media. Where else is this possible other than in Los Angeles, the undisputed Track and Field Capitol of the World, with the Olympics and IAAF WC medals to prove it.

LA is the undisputed world capitol of overinflated self-image. It has no NFL team, no important stop on the PGA tour, no stop on the ATP/WTA tours at all.
New York is the greatest city in the world, and every sports league and tour goes there as much as possible. That's where USATF needs to be.
Regardless, the only possible reason there ever was to be in Indy was to work more closely with the NCAA and NFHS. That hasn't happened and it was a fantasy to think it ever would.

Sorry but any company can setup shop in L.A. if they want to. The U.S. Constitution guarantees it. NFL, PGA, North Korea, China, Canada, Iran, Mexico, UK, etc. are open to bring their own funds to start any legal venture in Los Angeles. L.A. can't make anyone come though. L.A. is the most visible TV, media, entertainment, pro sports, college sports, pornography, recording, motion picture, fashion, style, culture, and trendsetting city in the world. And for our interests as runners, L.A. has the most Olympic and track & field medalists on the planet.

I live in NYC, love it more than any place on Earth. I also love the sport of running. I also know that this is the Media Capital of the World. I also know that New York's being the Media Capital of the World hasn't prevented the media from ignoring almost every professional running event that comes here with the exception of the Marathon ... and with ignoring just about everything that goes on up at the Armory.
False. LA is the media capital of the world. The TV shows, movies, bands, etc. are most all LA based. NY is important though for live plays. I luv NY.
Logan did alot of talking early on about how he wants to move into NYC. Set up an office start moving big events there ect, and nothing has happen yet.
They ignore the fact that the local association in NYC is in debt by 250K+ and have no hopes of correcting the situation.
NYC could be a power house if something was done about the association but due to the poorly written by-laws there is nothing that can be done.
I'm starting to lose my faith in USATF and am hoping that the day comes where they step in and make NYC what it should be for track and field. All they would have to do is talk to those individuals in NY who can make things happen. There are very passionate individuals there in positions to do big things.

That would be better than nothing. Outdoor meets, USA champs, and OTs would be held at different venues on the west coast each year in summer months due to weather. I heard Doug talk about splitting away the elite, high performance, and LDR sections of USATF to LA where TV production, TV talent, and a large portion of elite athletes reside. Non-elite (youth, masters, ultra, etc.) would be located in suburban NY/NJ. But I doubt if USATF has the money for HQ staff on both coasts.
You wonder where USATF would get its money without all the non-elite portions.
US elite Olympic/WC medalists that account for most of the TV revenue live primarily in two areas of the country, L.A. and Texas. I would hope that fact would have some influence on the re-location of USATF headquarters staff.

Doug needs to lead the USATF organization to serve the athletes and coaches and to win more medals for the United States. Catering to NY and Portland based executives should be of little concern. After all, that's why Masback was let go. John Smith, John Cook, Bobby Kersee, Clyde Hart, etc. and their athletes should be his primary focus. Those are the guys who produce winners for USA T&F.

I am against spending of one penny of taxpayer money, stimulus or other, to drop into that craphole of So. Cal. The state is burning up, earthquake prone, gang ridden, bankrupt, and does not support track and field. Why should the rest of us prop them up when they won't lift a hand to help themselves?
