I just need one.
I just need one.
I bet there is at least one that could.
I was going to argue with you, but they are really oversized dudes.
I bet the most likely position to do it would be a second baseman. They seem geeky enough to enjoy running in the off season, along with sprint/strength conditioning.

Jeter
Carlos Gomez now
Before, Lou Brock and Freddie Patek
I'm on the side that I think there is atleast 1 that can break 18.
Jose Reyes
Peter Griffin
Clay Buchholz ran a 16:30 for his HS XC team in TX, and he still has it... Reports said he kills everyone else on the Sox in spring training morning runs.
FWIW.
Plus Jaccoby Ellsbury could run 14flat, right now if he wanted to. But there isn't enough poon in distance running for him to even want to try.
The question you should be asking yourself is: can even ONE world champ distance runner hit a home run?
My money is on Ichiro.

These guys are sprinters, why would you think they could run a fast 5k? Um...ever heard of slow twitch vs fast twitch muscle fiber?
In general, the fastest sprinters in my conference ended up being the slowest at cross country (if they ran at all).
How many elite runners could hit more than 4 pitches thrown in the stike zone out of 100 and make it to first base safely if pitched by a major league pitcher and fielded by a mlb team?

Whoever the guy was that dove to get 10th at footlocker this year.
Hey Obvious Man,
So how many of the sprinters in your conference turned into professional athletes? I know that these guys are sprinters, and that there are fast twitch and slow twitch muscles. Perhaps you were unaware that a lot of spinters who don't ever become professional athletes can run an 18 minute 5k-take a look at the results of the local races next time you are online. These guys have access to trainers, physical therapists and nutritionalists on a daily basis. A helluva lot of spinters in high school and college have turned into 30-35 year old 5k, 10k and marathoners and a lot of former sprintes have become master runners breaking 18 minutes in a 5k. Um...ever heard of any other conferences than your own by the way?
ya beat me to it. Is there a single elite runner that could bat .075 in the majors?

If you guys are thinking I'm against baseball.. you're wrong. I'm just trying to prove a point that baseball players can break 18 mins in a 5k.
Solinsky could hit .220 with 17 homeruns, 44 RBI, and lead the lead in strikeouts. If he had a couple years in the minors.
solinsky would be better than Michael jordan was..
