Yes, the races are crazy anymore. It used to come down to a few guys, now most of the field is on contention at the end and the top 8 are like 2 seconds apart.

i think Symmonds weight actully helped him to not fall in the first lap of the final. He was having a lot of contact with the other guys. He is able to keep running through that kind of thing where normal skinny runners would at best lose stride faltering a bit and at worst fall.
