Sub 10.0 is much better than sub 4:00 so I guess the sub 10.0 would be cooler.
I'm assuming you mean you squeak in just under 10.00 and 4:00
If you squeaked under 10 consistently, you could probably make it through the rounds of championship meets, but get smoked in the final.
If you squeaked under 4:00 consistently, people on letsrun.com would call you Alan Webb (Webb in his bad years, not 1:43 and AR holder Webb).
I'm not a Webb hater, but there seems to be quite a number who frequent the board.
i think the public would recognize the mile time before they would recognize the 100m time. Miles are in our everyday lives. 100m are not.
