She needs to give marathon running a break and crank out a few kids. On the International scene she just isn't competitive.
Goucher dropped off the pace at 30K or so, which was a bit surprising given her credentials - halfway was about 6 min slower than her half marathon capability of 1:08. This speaks to the fact that she was running well within her capability, so maybe she had other problems like stomach or cramping ?
She will likely be disappointed with her 10th place given the winning time of just over 2:25...

If your puking your fluids in a marathon you have no chance of running well. It's not like toughing out a 1500.

For whatever reason she could not keep fluids down during the race.

At least she did not quit like so many Africans this week.
(Sometimes it is smarter to quit and save it for another race)

It was an exaggeration to drive across the point that it doesn't "just happen." It happens plenty to clueless hobbyjoggers, I'm sure. Just not to seasoned pros who know what the hell they're doing.

Small problems get magnified into big problems over 26.2. And yes, it happens to the elite too. Intestinal problems, cramping, hydration. Remember Paula taking a dump on the side of the road? You're not a serious student of the sport.
I do remember that happening (duh) but what about it? It's not normal and, yes, reflects on something done wrong. Radcliffe missed on something and it manifested itself on that day at that time. Small problems are still the result of something you did or of something you failed to do.
