David Goggins

I know after watching the encore presentation of the Ironman, which he didn't qualify for, I don't think he has the muscles in his face to allow him to smile. I agree with the I hate the training, but I train more in one day that the average person trains in 2 weeks. You think with all of that training that he hates that he would have at least performed better in the IM.

I wish you guys only knew the half of it. I'm lucky to say that I'm friends with Mr. Goggins and everything that he say's is true. He does train harder than just about anyone and he's not a naturally gifted runner, but he busted his ass to become competitive in the world of Ultra.

When you look at IM, you cant judge the NBC stuff that you see. He was chilling at IM. Also, many dont know this (unless you follow him closely), but Doctors found a hole in his heart a few months ago. He's apparantly had it since he was a kid and no one ever found it before. He was doing things that most people dont, at a higher level than most people do, operating on a heart that didnt function at near 100%.

I understand that he gets a lot of pub, but really, he's doing this less for the pub and more to raise money for a good cause. The fact of the matter is that his is a good story and when you have a good story people are going to watch and listen.

I remember reading an article about him somewhere. Runner's world maybe or online, but I distinctly remember a quote by his wife that he 'never complains about anything.'

As for the hating to train part, I don't know if maybe someone specifically asked him if he likes to train and he was just answering the question honestly or what. He probably does hate it though. He's still doing it for a reason and it's not for glory. I think he feels compelled to do all the stuff he does because of his reason.

David Goggins sleeps three hours a night.

He has a resting heart rate of 32 beats per minute.

He wakes up at 3.a.m. and runs 15 to 20 miles.

He commutes 25 miles to work by bicycle.

He is the only person to complete Navy SEALS “Hell Week” three times.

He is the only person to complete Tactical Air Control, SEAL and Army Ranger training.

With no special training, David Goggins ran 100 miles in 18 hours.

In finishing that race, in 2006, he suffered stress fractures in his feet and shins, urinated blood and lost control of his bowels.

and he all began this when he weighed 270lbs!

he also runs during his lunch break at work and bikes the same distance home, all after runs 15-20miles in the morning and bikes 25miles to work.

and he does this all for his charity.

once he reaches his goal of $1 million dollars he will stop.

right now he's raised over $500,000.

Do you really believe he will stop at 1 million?

Knowing how much he actually does dislike it, yes, I do think he'll stop at 1 million raised, BUT...he's not going to be doing much of anything competitive in the near future as he needs to heal from the surgery on his heart.

So...you may be hearing more about Mr. Goggins for a while.

I think his message with the "I hate it" is that everyone should do something you hate now while you are young. Because you won't be able to do it when you get old. Like for example I thought about doing running when I was younger and I sure as hell could have done it if I wasn't chasing other, now in retrospect insignificant things. Now I'm old and obviously couldn't be all that I could have been.

Enough already..... I have known David since 1995; I served in the military with him.

The stuff that he says is true. The difference is that he does it because it sucks and does not give up like most weak dicks out there do.

He does NOT rant.... If you knew him, you would understand. If you did not know him, you would not understand.

How is he doing now? Didn't he have a serious heart surgery a few months ago? I haven't heard anything since then.

Goggins is NAILS. Ran a 50 km with him a few years back. Tough competitor. Class act. Not a phony cell in his body. Doing it all for a great cause.

Certainly has little time for panzy-asses that criticize in complete anonymity on message boards without taking the time to know.

Honestly, it's a Military mentality, most of those guys act like they hate athletics.

But lets be real here, this guy is an absolute beast and you are jealous.

With his feet broken he nearly won a 100 miler and he doesn't even look like he could run a marathon without stopping as he has way to much mass. On top of that the dude trained for 6 weeks and ran a 2:53 marathon, that's better than 99% of this board, quit hating and grow up.
