What did everyone think of the half marathon webcast this morning? I thought Todd Williams and Juli Henner did a good job for only covering one runner. The camera work was horrible, but that's what happens when you run a race on a path that can only hold a few people on it at a time. That motorcycle almost hitting her was crazy. Good announcing, horrible course, and the bandit taking up tons of attention was sort of amusing as well.
Great run to Kara as well.
That was the best commentary I've heard on an American race broadcast even though it was an amateur-quality production. Here's to more coverage like it.

It's funny how much better some of the road race commentary is compared to the track and field commentary. I hope some of the marathons take notice and decide to put multiple cameras on the course, showing some of the top Americans individually. A Hall cam or Ritz cam would garner tons of traffic.

No, the guy that led (wearing a red jersey) for many of the final miles was a bandit, who pulled off with about a mile to go. The announcers in the lead truck were trying to figure out who he was because he didn't have a bib or chip on. They showed him for a long time instead of Kara.
Commentary was great, but it was a circus with an obvious bandit leading much of the race and getting lots of attention, and that moron on the motorcycle interfering with Kara. When the bandit pulled off course, Kara was unsure where to run because she thought he was legit. And they waited way too long to get rid of the motorcycle. Security should have been up front dealing with this stuff early.
Security on the course was extremely lax. I was getting in my long run on the 18 mile bike path that lines Chicago's lakefront this AM and was able to run right on to the course. Ran from 20k to past the 12 mile mark opposite the runners and no race official or guard pulled me off (I ran right by one Chicago cop who smiled at me) - odd. It was far enough to the front of the race that the competitors were still strung out or I would have bailed.
Incidentally, saw Ryan Hall running on the same bike path further north. Not sure what he was doing in Chicago. He looked scruffy.

Hall was in Chicago for the RNR expo doing some promotional work for Nissan. I saw him at the expo on Friday - dude needs a haircut!
I heard they were going to offer a video replay online of the Kara Cam coverage. Has anyone seen it anywhere?
i dont know what the point of this was, goucher won by 7-8 minutes, she did not have even token competition (unless you count the men). so other than it being a glorified tempo run/appearance this does not make sense this has to be elite racing/competitors worst race ever from a competition standpoint though seattle last month was not much better. the late mike long had something really good going with competive races and he was so popular with the athletes that runners like geb, defar and t. dibaba ran his races even though they did not get any appearance money, and it was a great series for development athletes who have not yet made a name for themselves. if this is a new direction elite racing is going in, it is a change for the worse.
Ah, if only all roads in life ran in one direction. Life would truly easier.

I am not 100% on this one, but based on only a quick look, I think that the bandit was Lars Juhl...and the red jersey was one of Often Running from Bloomington.

I find it amusing that people try to tear others down on the internet because it somehow makes them feel better. Was this necessary at all? Are you a better person for having posted this?
And if you had read my comment more closely, yes, I was running in the opposite direction as the competitors, so I ran from the 20k to the 12 mile mark traveling North on the lakefront bike path. Ugh...
