American women are on fire this year. This could shake up the letsrun fraternity.
Vessey held the inside lane the whole way, and made a brilliant move at at 550, to hold the rail. If she runs that way in the heats and semis, the finals are a real possibility.
She made the team right?
Excellent question--does Vessey qualify for worlds?

yesssss
I think she goes if the gal who got 3rd doesn't get the A standard (i.e., break 2:00).
Well, today was her last shot to hit the standard, but I don't know if anyone else ahead of her has hit it.
I know she definitely has the A standard, no question there. The issue is if the other girls got standard in the last day or two.
Here are the results
1 Maggie Vessey [USA] 1:57.84 20
2 Mariya Savinova [RUS] 1:58.39 16
3 Jennifer Meadows [GBR] 1:58.63 14
4 Jemma Simpson [GBR] 1:59.07 12
5 Kenia Sinclair [JAM] 1:59.13 10
6 Ekaterina Kostetskaya [RUS] 1:59.31 8
7 Christin Wurth-Thomas [USA] 1:59.35 6
8 Yuliya Krevsun [UKR] UKR 1:59.47 4
9 Élodie Guégan [FRA] FRA 1:59.77
10 Morgan Uceny [USA] USA 2:00.07
Tamara Tverdostup [UKR] UKR DNF
Jenny Meadows from the UK goes 1:58--nice run for her too.
She just dropped a bomb! What a finish. Despite being way back in that back stretch, looked so smooth in her kick. Way to go!
Also, that Russian Kostetskaya that keeps popping up - is she the same Katya Kostetskaya that was a 400m hurdler in high school and ran at Texas State?
Nope, I went to school with the Russian. Nice girl, but her penchant for clear liquor and clear injections will catch up with her soon.

Do Vessey lift weights? She looks like a pole vaulter...which is a really good thing.
