DUH. It is fairly obvious that they have already been to Rochester. Where do you think these interviews in the car came from?
Sadly, as has been said before, except for Brian Sell, they are basically a bunch of 2:15 marathoners. What will that do? Absolutely nothing! When Brian leaves shortly, what will they have? Exactly.

I've run plenty fast and can admit that I'm not any better than the 3:00 guy or worse than the 2:15. It's not what you got, it's what you do with it. They have enough talent to run 2:14, maybe 2:13 max when everything is in sync, but that's it. That is not even national class. Trent just got under 2:13, on his BEST day and got 4th. Guys with 1/2 pr's of 1:05:00 don't run sub 2:11 marathons.
Now if a guy came to the program and was already running 2:13 and worked for 3 years to improve, and the improvement came, that's different.
Why is Kyle O'Brien gone? See above explanation. I could tell you who's next, but I won't.
They've got runners who are 5k and 10k specialists, but can't break 14 or 29. They've got a 30 year old marathoner with a 2:21 pr from almost 3 years ago! What's he been doing for over 3 years if his specialty is the marathon? No, he's not gonna do what Trent did and this runner will most likely never even get to 2:15.
They've got a 33 year old marathoner who's been running for 16 years and can't break 2:15. I know, he just hasn't put it together yet after 7 marathons and is patiently waiting for the right race to peak. He falls apart in the 2nd half of almost every marathon he runs and can't put 2 1:06 halves together to save himself. Does anyone believe he will suddenly run a sub 2:11?

As far as all of the recent Hanson interviews, no clue. Going to Rochester, Michigan is no big deal. Trust me, I live so close I could hit the city boundary lines with a high powered sling shot. By the way, I'm not a Hanson Hater, far from it. I'm just listing facts. Numbers don't tell the whole story, but they don't lie either.

2) You don't know why O'Brien is gone.
3) You couldn't tell anybody who is next because you don't know.
4) You haven't listed facts, you've listed opinions (which you are entitled to) and most of the things you claim to "know" about the Hanson's are far from true.
5) It's ok though, we're all impressed with your knowledge anyway.

You proved that the Hansons are relevant. You took 5 minutes out of your life, that you will never get back, to post about them.
The anti Hansons folks, know who they are. It happens every time. 50% haters and 50% fans. But 100% relevant.
By the way everyone knows that Brian Sell will be done after New York. I find it funny that everyone acts like they have inside information.
Ive posted this on several Hansons related threads and will say it again, the Hansons Distance Project is all about adding depth to our country and developing guys who may have just quit after college or run 2:22 to becoming 2:15ish guys. That was the whole point of starting the group right around the time of the awful 2000 trials when America only sent Rod DeHaven to the Olympics. Will they ever make an Olympic Champ? Probably not, but the idea is if you get a bunch of 2:15 guys in this country, the ones running 2:12 are going to have to step up and perform and not just coast a 2:16 for a payday.
Look at Cycling, theres a whole slew of national level races for teams that don't compete in Europe. That means theres hundreds of cycling pros/semi-pros right in the USA who compete against each other for domestic bragging rights. Will they ever win a stage of the tour? Probably not, but the more guys we have the better our chances are of finding the next Lance racing for Team Jelly Belly.
My hope is that more Hansons like training groups continue to grow and running 2:20 makes you the 200th best guy in our country, only with depth like that will we be able to compete with a country like Kenya which produces hundreds of 2:15 guys every year.
My guess would be that they are putting these videos out on FloTrack as a way of maybe recruiting some runners to go up there...Oh and btw I heard that O'Brien split ways with Hansons just to try something different...I heard it was a good split and everyone went their seperate ways on good terms...It's just like any other sport, sometimes you have to mix things up a bit to get some results...You can't do the same thing and expect to get better...

So then what do we do? Take every 13:40/28:00 or better guy and have them try the Marathon, and tell everyone else to get lost? Theres one reason above everything else why we see packs of Kenyans and Ethiopians running fast times at the front of a field, because when you have 30 guys who are running the same time as you, youve gotta step up and perform. Depth can only help us, not hurt us, and besides what if that 2:15 guy one day has a career day and runs 2:09?
Heres Bill Rodgers first 5 marathons:
Boston 73- DNF
Baystate 73- 2:28
Boston 74- 2:19
NYC 74- 2:36 (!)
Philadelpia 74- 2:21
Then came that day in 1975 when everything clicked:
Boston 75- 2:09:55.
See what I mean? Most guys running 2:17 will never step up and run 2:09, but if you only have a select pool to draw from you're also not helping your odds either that well get another diamond in the rough.

but flotrack overdoes coverage of the hansons, .
why don't they talk more often to other coaches?

I really appreciate what flotrack does, but the site really does have a college feel to it. When they interview veterans, it sometimes sounds a bit juvenile because they're unaware of certain people. they specialize more in college scene.
again, I appreciate what they do but it is limited.

Bill Rodgers did that in 2 years, therefore, he was capable of running 2:09:55. A lot of the Hanson guys have been running for years and years, running the SAME time, give or take a minute. Look up Dick Beardsley, as others have done. You HAVE to show improvement, not the same time over and over and over. The countries best chance at medaling in the olympics will not come from a Hanson runner, I assure you. Brian Sell was their one and only diamond in the rough, AND, they are lucky he stuck around. If you train the same way and run the same time, HOW are you going to improve, assuming you aren't running faster workouts? One man's opinion, just like you've got yours.
Im not saying there aren't guys who haven't improved and have stagnated under the program, because many have but I also don't think it would hurt our chances if we had more programs like Hansons encouraging the 2:15-2:18 set so that we do find the next Rodgers, Beardsley, Sell, etc. I also never said that our next Medalist will be a Hansons runner, however their philosophy of helping guys move to the next level and encouraging more guys to stay in the sport longer could help yield one of our next medalists.

Perhaps Brooks pays Flotrack to cover them. It seems like Flotrack might have agreements like this.

Hey if Obama is selling out to the health insurance industry (and he is) and you don't care and major news corporations don't care, who cares if Flotrack sells out to Hansons and Brooks. At least someone in our sport is getting money (read Flotrack guys and the BroHans... the Hanson's athlete are always cut short on the money and gear)
My post should have said, they are "only" national class, meaning they are only doing well in mostly local races. That is my error and I take complete responsibility.
Um, I'm living here, where are you living? National Class is 2:15 to 2:22 for men. Like I said, Brian is the only real runner on the team (Clint is done). Kyle knew he was done, or why would he not stay there if he was improving so much? Isn't that the point of the program and why he signed up? Obviously he couldn't make it with the Group, so how can he do it on his own? I mean wasn't that the point of signing on with them in the first place. Not gonna happen. Yeah, he's a nice guy, a real nice guy. I talked to him often at the Hall Road store, but that has nothing to do with his end results.
In the long run, National Class will get you what? What is David Jankowski going to end up doing? Anybody? Anybody? Anybody? Winning the trials with a current pr of 28:51, set 3 years ago? I don't think so. If he doesn't get under 28 soon, it won't happen, meaning he doesn't have the ability. With a 5k pr of 14:11, please explain how he'll do that? Ask Greg Meyer himself and I'm sure his answer would be the same. Pipe dream doesn't help you in a race. Some people get it, others are clueless as to this level of running. Heck, Don Johns ran faster than that as a college runner and he ran the marathon trials in 1992, with a 2:13 plus marathon.

Why don't you man up and post your name? Then we can see your times and the Hansons athletes will know who to ignore at the stores. Why would anyone need to man up if you won't do it yourself?
