man I wanted to see Wanjiru run in Berlin with Geb, Duncan Kibet, and everyone else.
Guess I'll put it out there: did Haile force the Berlin organizers to shut out Wanjiru? Was there not enough money to have both of them?
Either way, I bet Sammy will get compensated well for running Chicago. -
Hall: Boston, then NYC.....CASHING IN!
nice...run the joke courses in the US now before 2011/12/13....make a little coin while the getting is good! -
The "joke courses?" What the heck is that supposed to mean?
-
NYC and Boston are relic courses from the days when the marathon was the realm of the freak. Hilly, "scenic", "historic" etc.
Who cares?
Chicago is the only world class marathon course in North America. It is comparable to European and Japanese marathons, because the organizers make every attempt to make the course FAST. -

Yes...cash. -
You can hear Ryan on the phone w/ his agent:
"Jerry! I need to see the KWAN!!!!!!" -
So the only "world class" courses are ones that are flat as a pancake? What an odd notion.
-
if this is true this is a great shame, Geb is never going to race a competitive marathon again, and he cannot go down as the best marathoner in history because of this. On the track he was without peer, on the roads he is proving to be somewhat of a competition avoider.

A friend at one of Wanjiru's sponsors told me a few weeks ago he would probably be running Chicago. This sponsor is also now one of Chicago's main sponsors but is not one of Berlin's. Put two and two together and you'll come up with a lot of money. The marathon Wanjiru is looking at after Chicago is much, much more surprising.
-
Actually, come to think of it, if you match up these three sets I think you find the answer:
Geb, Wanjiru, Hall
Berlin, Chicago, New York
Adidas, Nike, Asics -

Newsflash....We've landed on the MOON! -
Why does New York NEVER get the best? Wanjiru and Geb are both capable of setting WR. Hall can't win Boston.
Let me guess, New York will be bringing in 40 year old Tergat or 2:15 Rammala and a list of Americans and call it a world class race. -
They wanted Ritz, too, and play up the national championship. Don't know if his plans have changed.

ryan hall is an absolute idiot to not pursue running in the chicago marathon.
its okay, he'll lose to another african just like meb and ritz over the past 5 years at new york. -

Hmmm, oh yeah?
Follow up with your PB in the 26.2er and how you've contributed to running. -

Chicago is the only Rupp certified marathon course in North America.

I agree. Ryan has run a marathon in NY in a dominating fashion but not that great a time. He needs to go to Chicago and mix it up with THE BEST in the world and give himself a realistic chance to break 2:06 on American soil. That isn't happening at NY. Good luck to Ryan, I hope he runs well in NY but it would have been so much better to see him tear up Chi town. -
No, you're an absolute idiot.
First, how much money do you think Carey has? Limitless cash? Wanjiru is taking up a huge part of his budget, and no one has London's money except London.
Next, what about sponsor considerations? By Wanjiru running Chicago and Hall running New York, they're fulfilling an obligation in their contract to their sponsors, and still getting paid very good appearance fees.
You still look at track and road racing with amateur eyes, and not as the business it is for these guys. If you're just running for pride, sure, take a swing at the top guy every time. But Hall is running to pay his mortgage and put money away for his post racing days. It's that simple.
