How many dudes on here shave their legs? I just started and everyone keeps asking me why i do it, and i cant give them a concrete answer why, i just like the way it feels. If you do shave your legs, what are your reasons?

There is only one legit reason: vanity.
There is no reason at all other than it shows off the contours of the the muscles better. I know bikers, swimmers, and body builders are known for their hair aversion, but I see no legit reason for a runner to do it.
Vanity is the only reason.
Be honest with yourself, why did you shave your legs? You know why you did it.
Shaving them is kind of gay, there really is no reason to do it unless you have really hairy legs.
If you do have really hairy legs, and feel as though you want to shave them, try clipping them with like a #2 guard instead. Big difference and no one questions you. Plus, you don't look gay.
I did this in college. I just didn't want to have really hairy legs since I was always wearing short shorts. Plus, I had defined legs, yet could not enjoy them with all of the hair. The #2 guard just made me look normal, and really brought out the definition. At the same time, I didn't look like a greased ladyboy.
Vanity.
girls dont like gorillas
and kenyans dont have hairy legs
So why aren't "girls" flocking to the Kenyans?
Girls want a man to be a man just like guys like a woman to be a woman. Girls who like guys with shaved legs are those with latent lesbian curiosity.
Legit excuses:
Hair is nasty, especially on a sweaty 20 miler.
Massage feels much better.
The 70's were three decades ago.
Massages
Spot ticks easier
Cleans dirt off easier
Ice baths feel colder
Makes legs look more defined
Makes you "feel" faster-which is the most important because a good percentage of running confidence is feeling faster.

Isn't this kind of vain?
I just shaved mine yesterday for the third time this year. I don't want to get Lyme disease this summer like I did last summer. I am hoping that not only do they make it easier to spot ticks, but they also make it harder for ticks to hitch a ride. Also, my wife is more willing to massage my legs when they are shaved.

Thats similar to what I do. However I don't know what a #2 guard is!

Didn't he admit like 3 times in his post that vanity is the only reason?
Can you not read?

You're kidding right?

Ghey as ghey can be.

What? How often do you actually get a massage? Quit fooling yourself.

The 90's were a decade ago. Any Dov Charney ad will tell you that the hirsute look is definitely back in style again. It goes along with the "green" movement. People want "real," they don't want "manufactured."
Although shaving is a nuisance, there are several reasons, some already mentioned:
1) It has been clinically proven to be cooler, approximately 6-8 percent.
2) It is easier to relax during deep tissue message without having hair being pulled and napped as part of the process. Anyone who has had scar tissue broken up will know exactly what I am referring to.
3) Electrodes for muscle stimulators do not conduct current properly with hair in the way. This is only an issue if you make use of this type of recovery system or it is part of the physical therapy program you are currently involved with.
4) Some deep penetrating message ointments and oils can be quite expensive and they do no good on the hair.
All the best,
Bartman
Sure part of it is vanity. Same with cyclists, swimmers and body builders too.
Think of this, why do swimmers need to shave their body when they wear those full body swim suits? That's what I thought.
What about cyclists? So it's easier to clean up road rash? Come on now, it's not like they crash all the time! It's just as much vanity for them as well.
Body builders? They are the definition of vain.
The benefits I've found are as follows in no particular order. Massages feel better. I FEEL faster, running is mostly mental, so feeling faster helps. My woman likes it - yeah you all say that only dykes like shaved men but I have found that all the woman I've dated love my shaved legs. I look better - yes, vanity.
Have one bad, deep road rash cleaned and bandaged and you'll understand that cyclists don't shave out of vanity.

Being a cyclist with my fair share of pavement contact. I can say without reservation that shaved legs are a huge advantage with wound management. when I first started cycling, I didn't shave my legs, and when you take a good slide across the pavement, it just tears and rips up your legs. smooth legs reduce friction with the pavement, and also make it easier to scrub out wounds, and apply/remove bandages. Granted it does bring out the definition of the muscles, and a lot of chicks(especially athletic, fit chicks) like it. my .02$

Yes because cyclists put their crashes on their training plans
"Think I am going to eat shit today, better shave..."
I have a desk job - I'm sitting down all day, so I try to wear long / compression socks every day - helps recover from my morning runs and helps circulation to get ready for an evening run.
Long hair = sucky / annoying for this and other massage (every other week)
I usually don't shave to the skin - #2 clippers - takes less time and don't get knicked.
practical w/o being vain I think.

No, it made you look like an idiot with partially shaved legs!
