It was very fun to see her run...and Win.
What a exciting finish, and brave run right through the line.
Considering she is probably just getting through jetlag and just getting situated in Europe, caught up on rest etc., what a great result.
I think she has a real chance to break 2:00 soon, and that she is really blossoming and coming into her own and another break through could be happening soon.
and she looks GOOD doing it:-)
I thought her win was amazing. I also think it's informative.
I was talking to a buddy of mine about it as well as I thought it was weird that there are like 50 posts on Wurth Thomas' 3:59.98 as compared to Vesssey's win.
Track isn't popular because people focus too much on time. Period.
Yes in terms of performance a 3:59.98 is better. But if a friend of yours who is an average sports fan is over at the house and watching the race, try explaining to them why that race was more entertaining than Vessey's.

I confess, Vessey was the only runner I followed in the race, because I wanted her to win, to progress, to make up for the poor race at Nationals, where she ran on 1 hours sleep cos she was nervous, as it was kinda new to her.
It is nice to see someone making some of their dreams come true.
I think Greg Brock, her coach, is right, she needs to have fun and take risks...
She might just surprise herself some more with some surprising PR's.
I've long thought that it would be interesting to have some track meets without keeping time.
Just race to win, no clock. That would be very interesting.
I saw her run 53.61 at a local all comers meet in our area :)

Yea, there have been some really great runners at the meet. Regina Jacobs set the 2 mile AR there (okay, I know it's "Roidgena" and it didn't count because she had male pacers, but I believe it's still the meet record). PattieSue Plumer also used to run there along with Cece St. Geme. All of them have run some very quick times... not to mention numerous other people.
It's great to have some CCS representation on the world stage, with Shannon Rowbury and Maggie Vessey (both part of the same section in HS).
I tried to break 2 mins there in the 800 at age 32 after a ten year lay off from racing, and only a few months of track work outs and ran a string of 2:01's lol.
But hey that was my PR at age 17, so I was happy to tell everyone I was in the same shape I was in at 17. ;-)
I also knew Regina briefly, sad story there. Not sure she juiced earlier in her career...my guess is it was something late to hang on to her running career...

Her splits were extremely even: 29.9, 30.2, 30.1, 29.8

I don't think her tactics are bizarre - she ran really even splits (just like a distance runner would do) - but it sure is fun to watch!! I wish the video had captured her reaction when she saw she won - her interview on runnerspace was very cute.
