I guarentee you could call/email the osu coach and he would undoubtly let you on the team, even if you could only manage a 4.50 mile. I say this because look at who they broughy to big 12's outdoor conf. (one of the ncaa rules say you must bring at least 14 athletes to a certain amount of meets) and you will notce a couple guys you never saw in xc or track, probably a couple of recreational runners, so not much depth beyond the top 10-12 runners (all distance guys, and all pretty respectable), but long story short, they need numbers desperately bad. Anyone can make the team. As for their top 7 in xc, well making that would probably be one of the top 5 or so hardest xc teams to make in the country.

Don't go to stillwater! Have you ever been there? It's a depressing place. It's a town only composed of the college and there's NOTHING else to do besides the college related stuff. Go somewhere were you can actually enjoy your life, trust me.
Be careful with this team. Their coach was seeking out athletes from other colleges at USATF Jr National's and encouraging them to transfer. Very low! I expect they will be reported by someone.
And they should be reported. Why do coaches do this? A successful program on top and they feel they need to steal other coaches athletes.
I don't know about that... After being respectfully connected with some of the former osu cowboy guys and the team as a whole. The program was pretty blue collar.... ("recruiting wise"). As for some of the other people connected with the program, well, there were a couple snakes, no lie there.
Being around Stillwater for five years was a BIG regret in my life.

you have to be able to beat German.
must wear cowboy boots, ten gallon hat and be able to rope a calf and tie it up in less than 10 seconds. Rodeo is more popular at OSU than track and cross country.
Just curious, but which athletes were they recruiting? The ones from other colleges that is?
No names needed. The athletes have each told their current college coaches. The OSU coach was not the only coach after someone elses distance runners. My opinion of the program has seriously deminished. The NCAA really has no control and its a free pass to these coaches.
Really? I just find it hard to believe that went on at usatf's. Then again, I was coached under Coach Weis. I've heard the new guy is a bit bipolar (to say the least on his mental range), but by no means, have I heard from of the guys about him breaking any rules of any sort.
I hope this is not true.
I call shens.
In order to walk on at OSU, you must be able to successfully give German a hand-job in under 30 seconds...to make top seven... sub 15 sec.
Clearly now that Vail will be gone.. the program is 100 perecent about German. You're better off going somewhere else unless you wanna be another German groupie
I don't know how true this is, given it's going through two degrees of people, but a friend of mine who is best friends with one of the osu guys heard from him that during a workout of theirs, as most the team was doing 200m's (maybe is was 400ms as well), anyways, Hermon was doing 400m's by himself at his pace, that all the osu coaches had a pencil and small notebook writing down hermon's splits, as the rest of the team was completely ignored.
Makes sense why there is no big recruits going there this year... correct me if I'm wrong. (excluding foreigners)
The first reply is correct, your best bet is to e-mail one of the OkState coaches like Dave Smith or Bobby Lockhart. They will let you know what you need to do. If you are curious about how the program is run, ask the current or former athletes what training in Stillwater is like and how coach Smith handles things.
As a former Ok-State runner, I will tell you that choosing OSU was the best choice I ever made. There are miles upon miles of dirt roads, which start within two-three miles of the track, depending on the route you run. As well as some other nice routes. The summers can get pretty warm, but most people are not there for the majority of the summer months.
